“There is no other book quite like this.” JN2 Magazine
A picture book designed to help children who are struggling to give up their dummies. Children love it because it’s a great story with fun illustrations, and parents love it because it enables children to kick their dummy habit once and for all.
This book ALSO tackles the days following the departure of the dummies, so parents don’t have to worry about a child missing their dummies once they’ve gone.
The book follows the story of a little girl called Bea, who refuses to give up her dummy. Then one night her mother persuades her to leave all her dummies outside her room for the ‘Dummy Fairy’ to take, (in exchange for a special gift). Bea gets to meet the fairy, who shows her that it IS possible to give up dummies without shedding a single tear.
After reading, children can follow the story at home by collecting up their dummies and leaving them outside their bedroom at night. Parents can then ensure that the ‘Dummy Fairy’ takes them off to Fairyland, leaving a special gift in their place!
The book also includes some fun ideas to help stop children missing the dummies, in the days after they’ve gone.
“I read this book to my dummy-loving son. Afterwards he couldn’t wait to leave his dummies outside his room for the Dummy Fairy to take. Amazingly he never asked for his dummy again.” Liz Coxeter

“There is no other book quite like this. When reading it to my own dummy dependent daughter, she was swept away by the magic of the fairies. Thanks to this lovely book she knows the dummy fairy will be visiting imminently and is prepared for it.” JN2 Magazine
“Bea Gives Up Her Dummy is an enchanting tale featuring magical illustrations. The book acts as a step-by-step preparation for giving up dummies.” Bridget Galton, The Ham and High Newspaper

I can not recommend this product enough! Although I did change some of the story when reading.
I had purchased this book after discussing the dummy fairy with my 2.5yr old daughter for a few days prior to reading. We sat down before bed read the story and then my daughter had agreed to give her dummies to the dummy fairy after reading (the dummy fairy was taking her dummies to the little baby girls and boys to help them stop crying) at first i was sceptical and thought we would have a terrible night with my daughter however once we had packed her dummies into a little box and taped it shut she took a Teddy up to bed and did not surface till the morning, no tears and no night wakening! The dummy fairy had left a little gift in the morning for her and we added “having no dummies to her reward chart” and placed a star next to it, as I thought this was a fluke the dummy fairy had left new pyjamas for her second night of no dummies and again we have had no issues. My daughter has not asked for a dummy since reading! I did however think we would have more difficulty as her baby brother has a dummy and is only 1month old but there has been no issues! my daughter did not only have 1 dummy but cuddled about 5 dummies in bed and always had a spare or 2 in her pockets!

Was desperate for an aid to help our daughter (2.5yrs) get rid of her dummy at naps and bedtime. She would fight sleep and get so upset without her dummy.
This book really helped to ease her off it. We would read it a 3-4x a week and would talk about what she would like the dummy fairies to bring. Sometimes she would show no interest and sometimes she would help turn the pages and point to fairies.
We went shopping and saw mini Anna and Elsa dolls. She really liked them so I said “well the dummy fairies might leave them for you if you give them your dummies”. When we read the book we said how the dummy fairies might bring her the dolls just like Bea.
Nothing for about 10 days and then one day in the car a wee voice said “Dummy fairies bringing Anna and Elsa” I said that would be lovely and should we try it. That night she went to bed without her dummy. She cried so I went back in and reassured her that it would be alright and Anna and Elsa might be there when she woke up. She chatted and soothed herself and in the morning said “Mummy I’m a big girl, see Anna Elsa”
So we took her downstairs and on her chair was Anna and Elsa. She was so so so chuffed with herself and told everyone she saw that week. Nursery said they had no issues and she went down with her dolls quite happily.
I gave this book 4 stars only because it is a bit long and she kept loosing interest but otherwise a great book for our family and would recommend.

My daughter hasn’t given up the dummy yet but we are working on reducing the attachment gradually. This book isn’t a magic book – we have had to use behaviour change strategies too and put up with come crying/grouchiness now that dummy gets left at home in the day – but it helps provide a way to talk about the change. Based on the dummy fairy, so don’t get it if you’re not using that concept.

Bought this as a gift for my 4 year-old sister who was still practically glued to her dummy. I’d managed to taper off her usage to bedtimes only but needed an extra push to convince her to give it up for good. After reading this book to her and explaining that the dummy fairy was going to collect her dummies and give her a gift in return, she enthusiastically helped me collect all of the dummies in the house and went to bed dummy-free for the first time without any of the usual fuss and tantruming that usually accompanied previous attempts. The reason I’m knocking off a star is partially due to the aforementioned requirement of bribery for the plan to work, which I don’t mind too much since it was only a one-time thing and therefore doesn’t run the risk of enabling a habit, but also the part of the book which mentioned food was a bit unnecessary and if anything served to complicate what was going on and make it confusing for the child in question. Saying that the dummy fairy is going to leave a present is perfectly fine and workable on its own, and trying to explain the bit about food just seemed out of place and distracted from the overall point. There might be some kids out there who that part worked on, but for me it just turned out to be an inconvenience. That being said, the book did a perfectly fine job of doing what it needed to do and I’m grateful for that.

My 3 year old daughter loved her dummy. We had managed to restrict just to bed times but she still needed it during the night and had started to wake for her dummy during the night so thought it was time to try to get rid of it (her teeth were also starting to protrude).
She really enjoyed reading the book and chose it before bed most nights. After reading, we would ask her if she wanted to give her dummy to the dummy fairy; each night she responded ‘no, I like sucking my dummy’ so we didn’t push it. After about two weeks, her response changed one night to ‘yes!’ so we collected her dummies and left them for the dummy fairy!
First night, no issues and she received a little present in the morning (the present she requested was being made by the dummy fairies!). Night two and three, she did cry but soon settled with a cuddle and slept through without issues. Night 4, no tears so she received her special gift from the dummy fairy the next day (the dummy fairy also left her letters which she loved).
It’s been about 3 weeks now and she occasionally has asked for her dummy but doesn’t push it when I say no (she doesn’t even try to steal her baby brother’s!)

The story is not what I wanted for my daughter. Its just not kid friendly

Thought this book was a long shot, as our daughter was attached to her dummy. We read this book for 3 nights in a row and then the magic dummy fairy came to take her dummy. 2 weeks in and it’s been gone since. Definitely worth a try!

Think it scared her from using the dummy but it worked and she threw the dummy at me so I give this book a massive 5*!!!!!
