It’s worth buying the book to use alongside the free user guide which can be downloaded from the Procreate site. It’s useful to have both to refer to, as this book and the free user guide each give a different point of view. The book also has eight separate projects explaining how to use various features to draw illustrations, character design, fantasy landscapes etc. Procreate is a powerful program that can produce good art work, it takes time to learn all the details, so buying a good manual will speed up the learning process.

Another advantage of using Procreate is that you can email the developers and you’ll get a helpful response, usually within two working days.

Very practical book. I have watched many tutorials and even subscribed to skillshare to learn how to apply the beautiful features in Procreate.. in my experience none of them gave me a true sense of understanding how these things work.. specifically with lighting, shadows etc.. I have attached one of the project I made (credit to authors of the book) I couldn’t believe that I was able to produce something with that quality.. thanks to everyone who made this book and enabled me to enjoy Procreate.. it’s the best xxx

Having recently started an art course and deciding to purchase a new ipad to use Procreate, I assumed this book would be useful as it’s called a “Beginner’s Guide”.
I accept that my assumption or misunderstanding is largely the problem and I should imagine it’s useful to well-versed artists who have decided to venture into digital art; however, as a new “artist” in the early stages of learning the skills, this book was too difficult. It explains how to use Procreate, but the projects are clearly pitched at those who already possess the artistic skills.
I’ll be sending it back as it’s way above my ability level.

Bought the Apple iPen for she who will be obeyed who is a very accomplished artist and designer. She is not that user friendly with technology but this book is a must, compliments both the Procreate software and the iPen….drawings and illustrations have been flowing like floodwater and the potential of the software and its use and features have been so very much explained and enhanced by this book……highly recommend…..

I like the book and it’s already helping me navigate Procreate. I think it’s going to be a brilliant guide. However I don’t understand how to access the downloadable resources. It says to find them on p208 but there’s just words and descriptions, with no info on where to get them from. I’m probably just being dumb!

Also beware if you have difficulty reading white text on a black background. Some people swear by it, but if you’re like me it can be a hard on the eyes and leave after images flashing all over. Everyone’s different!

EDIT: I have since found the downloadable resources online on 3D Total Publishing’s website. Maybe this is something that is known if you buy the book directly from them, however a note in the book directing you there wouldn’t go amiss!!

I am an Artist & wanted to try Digital Art that so many people are talking about, including David Hockney! I have no money for an IPad, but when I found I could use Pocket on my old IPhone, I downloaded the App.
Well, I got a little way with it, but was pretty lost in how to get further. I researched help books buyable on Kindle as so much cheaper, & this came out best. Yes, not everything is the same on both programs, but most of the important stuff is.
As I find there’s so much to remember, I pracy the important bits in a notebook. This I find invaluable. I have not finished the book yet, but it’s helped me get to grips with things so far & is reasonable to understand. I would recommend to anyone using Procreate or Pocket who wants to find out how to use it. Well worth the money.
