Behind the Thistle: Playing Rugby for Scotland (Behind the Jersey Series)
£11.90£12.30 (-3%)
Featuring the thoughts of more than 180 players who have represented Scotland since the very first Test match in 1871 all the way through to the present day, Behind the Thistle gives a unique insight into the drama and emotion of playing for Scotland in that most rarefied of environments – Test match rugby.
In this exhaustively research tome, David Barnes and Peter Burns provide inside access to more than 150 years of private moments in the changing room, on tour, on the training ground, during the tumultuous heat of battle itself, and lift the lid on numerous post-match antics.
This is the story of what it is really like to play for Scotland, revealing the sacrifices and joys experienced by those who have shed blood, sweat and tears in pursuit of glory in the navy blue jersey.

Excellent read, love reading what current and ex players say about playing for their country, only thing I would say is that the book itself is quite heavy

I bought this book as a Christmas present for my husband and he loves it, particularly the stories from the older generation of (ex) players. As others have said, a great present for a Scottish rugby fan.
A minor point – I am informed that it has a noticeable number of typos, which don’t spoil it, but are a bit irritating. For example `tires’ instead of `tries’. Also, I don’t know why Amazon are quoting the RRP as £31.98 because our book clearly has £20 written on it. At the current price of £19.19 therefore, it’s not much of a bargain, but since I bought it when it was £8.80, I think I got a good deal, and can even forgive the poor proof reading !

This is a super book: some wonderful stories and some great photos. Must have taken some considerable legwork on the part of the author. Good effort and very entertaining. It has pride of place on my bookshelf!

excellent-a present for my Dad.

Bought for my son who is a Scottish rugby fan. He says the title is the most original bit, otherwise full and lacking charisma.
