Once upon a time.
King Bernard stood at the doors of his “World Famous Embassy Club ” in Manchester.
He looked out at his patrons sat in groups enjoying their orange juice and lemonade.
Butterflies danced around the surrounding ornamental flower beds as the horses trotted by under 20mph.
The hum of laughing voices filled the air. Not a word of profanity was to be heard about -Religion – Celebrities- Football – Politics -War- Sexuality -Immigration -the Economy- Race.
Suddenly silence. Somebody appeared to light up a pipe. Mobile phones and CCTV cameras caught the offender and the people of Happy Valley rejoiced.
It was the end of another perfect day.
King Bernard turned to go back into the Embassy Club with a hearty hail to his subjects- BE SEEING YOU.

Many know Manning for the wrong reasons. Yes he was very contoversial but he was also a brilliant comedian who knew what he wanted in life and how to get it. Lots of information about his childhood and early life. Worth a read if you enjoy good humour.

This is a richly entertaining biography of one of Britain’s best known comedians. Although sneered at by the right-on brigade, Manning is actually a very, very good joke teller, and while he takes no direct part in this book, it does reveal some fascinating facts about the big man. Well worth reading for anyone with an enthusiasm for British comedy.
