It’s informative, but the flow is not too good. I would recommend to have it better structured. It feels like a script for a YouTube video. It is nice and has information, but there is something about the way it is written.

This book came out at the right time, in a year where so many of us want to level up financially.
Selina explains very clearly and succinctly why this book is needed for Black women, as we have to navigate in the world within the barriers of the gender pay gap and also racial pay gap. The writing was simple to read, I didn’t feel bogged down with complex financial jargon. The experiences also felt very relatable.
I’m armed with enough financial knowledge from this book to flex my financial goals, and was refreshing to read this from the perspective of a Black woman.

I initially bought this book for my 17 yr old daughter who has just got her first part time job and is study business studies at college but I ended up reading it myself!!! It’s a great book, nice and easy to read with good explanations for financial terminology. This is a great starter book that would definitely suit younger women at the beginning of their financial journey as well as women who would like to educate themselves about personal finances. I’ll pass it on to my daughter now!!

This booked gave so much insight in all things Finance, from how to combat feeling bad about yourself and me finances but also how to claim my finances back and how to make them work for me forever. It came with space to jot this down and had advice on how to start to where I am at, what it takes to change and how to change. I felt like the Selina was holding my hand and walking me through a difficult path that she too has been on and has come through. That gave me hope that I too could over come this tough hurdle. I really enjoyed reading about the different streams of investing and enjoyed building an emergency fund. What I appreciated is how much information is in the book without sounding boring. There is a lightness to the book that doesn’t leave you feeling defeated but ready to get things sorted out.

Money made easy! Selina has created a beautiful book that educates, supports and challenges our way of seeing money, seeing ourselves and our relationship with our finances.
With informative breakdowns of various financial terms, guidance on how to manage money, beneficial tasks that support our awareness and personal experience from Selina and other case studies, we are encouraged to become better women with our finances.
With this book you no longer need to be scared about money, you can take your head out of the sand, hold your head up high and face your money challenges head-on and become financially intelligent with Selina’s support.

This is the greatest book about managing your money, something which can be difficult in our consumer driven culture. I like the way Selina focuses on the financial mindset and how this is formed early on in life and can be detrimental in our relationship with money. Her tips about budgeting and being realistic and strategic about handling money are helpful and presented in a clear approachable way. Ditto her information about saving and investing. Every sentence in this book is well though out and full of intelligence and wisdom. One small issue – instead of her name at the head of each page, it would have been more useful to have the chapter heading!.

“Black girl finance” is a good book. It’s well written, insightful and I think Selina did a good job writing it. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the book is very basic and for anyone that has a semblance of good financial knowledge, I don’t see how it could be helpful or provide additional knowledge as everything is so basic. I think it would be a great tool for complete beginners or someone that has zero knowledge. In that case, I would recommend this book but for people like myself, that are already investing, have an EF fund and know about budgeting, then it isn’t the most useful. I read the book in 30m and it just didn’t feel.. worth it to me. That’s not to take away from Selina’s craft, it is a well written book and I appreciate the research, the black/white pay disparities and the stats. It’s just a little basic for a more seasoned finance enthusiast.
Also, bear in mind I’m only 24. If you’re a 40 year old seasoned and knowledgeable investor, then I don’t think you’d learn much more than you already know from this book.
