Blackpool at War: A History of the Fylde Coast During the Second World War

£9.70£14.20 (-32%)

Although it escaped bombing raids, Blackpool played an important role in World War Ii as a center for training, with numerous airfields and factories surrounding the area. This book is the first to offer a dedicated history of the town during this period. It includes interesting stories such as the people’s playground, the Freckleton Air Disaster, and an eventbyevent account of activities. Despite being less affected than some other areas, the difficult war years still impacted the local people. Filled with true tales of local courage and of the spirit of the people of Blackpool during these tumultuous years, this nostalgic volume will be of interest to all who know and love Blackpool.

A fascinating read for anyone from Blackpool with an interest in WW2. I found reference to my father and uncle (not by name) who joined the Chindits in Burma, also my other uncle who emigrated to SA in an old army truck. Definitely genuine stories. A very well researched book.

A very interesting book, although as ex RAF am well aware of some of the content, was amazed at much that was new to me, plus someone I know did trading there for six months and enjoyed, All in all I guess Blackpool really did do its share and then some, during WWII.

Just love this book! Bought it as my Grandad was a Polish air pilot in the 2nd World War and first arrived in Blackpool in 1939. This book sets the scene and is very well researched and written. Its certainly helped me picture Blackpool during the War and not just for weekend trips to ride on the donkeys and eat ice cream from Pablos! Thankyou .. super seller 🙂

A good general overview of this topic. Lacking in detail given the number of published works regarding wartime Blackpool. Item on wartime collision over Blackpool does not portray an accurate picture of the event although a number of authoritive sources are quoted.

Present for my father, he found it very interesting. There were things that he did not know about in the area.
