This is an excellent book from a well established academic expert in LGBT+ and faith. It is well written and easy to read. The points are well made and very clear. Recommended.
by AS Andreasen
Dr. Shepherd has written a thought-provoking book about the pastoral consequences of attending non-affirming churches for LGBT+ youth.
We read individual stories as well as hairy statistics about suicide.
The book is an easy read, but it is a tough read. It challenges our practises and attitudes especially in the evangelical and charismatic churches.
I read the book as a call for action. The time for silence and ignorance is over. We need to shout about the love of Christ for all and challenge harmful practises and theology.
Dr. Shepherd quotes the Naked Pastor: “You use Scripture to understand love, I use love to understand Scripture.” Let the love revolution begin.

An extremely helpful resource with useful statistics and talking points. A really good starting point for anyone wanting to learn or teach about LGBT+ folk in church.
by Kathryn Grainger
Dr Carol Shepherd has written a book which every Church youth leader and pastor should read…if not every Christian! The subject of LGBT+ people and faith is too often avoided, ignored, skirted around or deemed irrelevant. Dr Shepherd sympathetically, succinctly and intelligently explains why this is so detrimental and gives Scripture-based teaching on how to deal with this important subject. Some of the case histories are harrowing to read, but these stories must be told. Our young (and not-so-young) people deserve to be heard and included in our Church families, regardless of their sexual orientation. Jesus’ main message was one of love above all else…Christians should be leading the way in reaching out to people, not being part of the problem of isolation, despair and suicide! Please, read this book and read it with an open mind and heart.
