Bold British Design sees tastemakers at the epicentre of British interior design share their exclusive vision and inspiration for achieving a bold interior, inspiring you to create your own original, fearless home.
Designers the world over are increasingly looking to British creatives to combine heritage and history with wit, modernity and attitude. Interiors Editor Emilio Pimentel-Reid and photographer Sarah Hogan have gained exclusive access to the studios, homes and mood boards of 20 top British creatives.
With the interiors creating a visual conversation through the rooms of the houses and creative spaces, the authors reveal the history, craftsmanship, key elements and inspiration that went into creating these very personal and stylish spaces.
Featuring the studios and relaxed family homes of artists including furniture designers Sebastian Cox and Bethan Gray, ceramicist Hitomi Hosono, interior designer Lucy Hammond Giles, names to watch Yinka Ilori and Hal Messel and antiques dealer Guy Tobin, Bold British Design shows how a new generation is breaking new ground in interior style and decor.

This book is not only beautifully written and photographed, it is full of just a few of the incredibly creative people who live and work in the UK. It’s inspiring, eclectic and an absolute must for the book shelf. A great gift too but only once you have your own copy.

I love the size and feel of this book and it doesn’t stop there! Once you open it the photographs are a feast for the eyes. Packed with information about the homes the featured designers created. It is also beautifully written. I enjoy dipping into it, gaining inspiration, it gives me a sense of calm. I like the fact that the photographer Sarah Hogan’s house features and a beautiful one it is too, not only that, the writer Emilio Pimentel-Reid’s home is also featured, it gives a real taste of how this duo have immersed themselves in their passions. I can highly recommend this book and will be buying further copies as gifts for friends…

I bought this due to the raving reviews and love for interior design – the photography is spot on and the homes are ‘bold’ (in terms of different – not conforming to societal norms and showing personality), but personally, sad to say I thought most of the designs were unimpressive.
When you think of ‘bold’ home design and “modern spaces” (as the cover highlights), you think of: innovative, beautiful, interesting, fearless (taking risks which pay off due to clever planning and design skills), complimentary colours, and designs that make your home feel like a home – not designs that make it feel like the workplace or grandmas house, a lack of complementary colours, full of clutter, not practical (I mean, does the home really benefit from having 1000+ stacks of magazines dotted about all over the coffee tables and floor…?)… basically like an antique shop just threw up in the house. If you’re an antique dealer, I guess it makes sense. But it’s possible to have a eclectic home that looks amazing without looking like a murderers home. I mean the kid’s bedrooms are plastered with such dark images… might wanna promote some rainbow and Spiderman imagery in there to make it less terrifying?
There was a home featured where you could see the fold lines in the bedsheets and pillows, as well as a lamp that wasn’t plugged in or anywhere near a socket, so they were probably bought for the shoot too. It just makes it seem like inauthentic and sloppy design – even to ordinary folk like us who are not interior designers!
The only home worth looking at is Sarah Hogan’s who is an interior photographer – minimalist design, clearly planned out very carefully and creatively along with the architecture, as they knocked down a bungalow and created a home from scratch. My personal style is not minimalism, but it certainly gave me the wow factor.
I probably won’t be taking inspiration from this book. I’ll stick to Pinterest where many interior designers are active and bold!

Loved this book.. we are just starting out on a big renovation project and it has given us so much inspiration and ideas that we would never have thought about ourselves! Well worth a read if you are thinking about a re-vamp or even just for the beautiful photography it not!

This is a beautifully written and illustrated book; as an avid collector of design books this is a must. The content is so relevant with the insight into how the designers featured create their working space and studios. The size and layouts make a comfortable read and the images are inspiring. The author has captured the spirit of the designers beautifully and it is a book that you will dip into on a regular basis.

Great ideas

Some design books are let down by an odd format, being too big or too heavy for instance. This book is pleasing to hold and feels almost like a text book. it’s meant to be read, not just for show. Beautiful photos of interiors and workspaces and personal interviews with the artists and designers. British design at its finest

Brilliantly written, illustrated, presented and executed by both Emilio Pimentel-Reid and Sarah Hogan. You can really feel the energy and the enthusiasm from both the writer and photographer and also their subjects – a through account and tremendous collaboration in presenting artists, designers and manufacturers of today’s Britain. This book journeys you into the lives and minds of the designers and makes one understand how the world of design and aesthetics tick. I have absolutely loved getting to know everyone and thoroughly appreciating their work and minds through these beautifully arranged pages. A great buy and a designer enthusiast must have!
