Read it in one day, throughly enjoyed it, but it is a work of non fiction. I found it really interesting and fascinating about the mechanics of establishing a bomber crew. It is obviously a book intended to draw them into the American airforce. The whole premise is based on that its not your education of your social economic level that matters it’s about what skills the training can bring out of you and that decides your role. It is perfectly clear that every role is equal and it is not a failure not becoming a pilot. By the time I’d finished I was on the phone trying to join the airforce, which is obviously the intentions of the book. Not everyone’s cup of tea but worth a read if your interested in the armed forces.

A clear view of every crew members duties aboard American heavy bombers. Very enlightening. A must read for any one interested in the air battle over Germany by the very brave air crews of the AAAF.

John Steinbeck is my favourite author and I only bought Bombs Away to complete my set. His fiction by far outways his non-fiction which I find a bit too homely and verging on patronising.
