This isn’t quite the scatter gun that BABOK is, but instead concentrates on techniques that a BA is more likely to use in the real world. Well written and easy to follow, this is a good reference to have to hand.
by Ian Howlett
This book is a worthwhile new edition, significantly improving on the already excellent second edition.
The techniques really just provide ways of structured thinking, to make sure the right things are considered. To this extent they are checklists, which you can use to stimulate your thinking about where to take your analysis next.
Some techniques are covered in more detail than others – the coverage of daily stand-ups and retrospectives could do with bolstering with some solid techniques – but even just serving as a memory-jogger for what to look up elsewhere if you need more information is very valuable.
I was pleasantly surprised to see some techniques included, especially those focused on the softer people-focused side of business change.
There’s really something for everyone in here, and this book is worth keeping on your desk for inspiration. I’d encourage every BA to buy, read, and actively use this book.
