For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare – poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world’s top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him The Fittest (Real) Man in America.

In this curse-word-free edition of Can’t Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.

Quick and easy to read, but packing a useful message. I very much enjoyed this book as a holiday read.

Everyone I know into sports/fitness/general getting through hardships mentioned David Goggins to me and when heavily pregnant and terrified of what was to come I downloaded this to see if his mentality could help me with birth.

The first few chapters were interesting and I liked them but I wasn’t quite as ‘Goggins’d’ as everyone else but I could tell he was a tough guy and so while not motivated interested enough to keep reading. By the middle of the book however I was hooked.

Firstly, wtf! He’s an absolute machine. It’s worth reading for that. Secondly, as you read more you become more revved for life than you could imagine. The book left me feeling one of the most optimistic about life I can remember, and so ready for action it was ridiculous. At 3 months post partum im now running and lifting weights again, with no excuses, finding time despite a newborn and the inevitable no sleep because I mean, what would Goggins do?! He would have already run an ultra with this baby strapped to his chest – something I now aspire to do!

Read it – I don’t think you can and not be motivated and realise you own yourself and your life.
