Was brought as a birthday present.
Was appreciated by her but not the rest of the family.
Apparently the music spans Grades 1 and 2 , with the advantage that most of the tunes were already known.

Lovely, easy to play versions of favourites. All of the really common carols are in here along with a few others. Simple fingering – using 2nd finger as well as 3rd but no extended finger positions.
These are pitched at a really great level – my ‘definitely not grade 1’ child is really enjoying massacring them. For a solid grade 1+ player, there would be a lot more to be had out of them and I think they’d probably be good sightreading practice at grade 2-3: quavers in different places in the bar, slurs, dynamics, etc.
My only quibble would be regarding the backing track which isn’t as beginner friendly as the Joggers/Runners books – the beat isn’t terribly clear and it can be hard to work out the tempo before the cello part starts – Royal David’s City is a good example where it’s easy to finish several bars before the accompaniment. It’s probably a lot more musical like this (and a better test of playing with a ‘nice’ accompaniment) but it’s not as good for weak youngsters.

Same high quality as the other books in the series… Lovely arrangements, clear bold print… However please note the cd is a PLAYALONG rather than backing tracks… Compared to sprinters, where each track is recorded twice.. Once with playalong and once as a backing track.. So it is a bit more limited.. A little bit disappointed with that, but should have read the discription fully… Hope future editions they resolve this as. A lovely collection of tunes though for Christmas time on the cellio

Just as it says – well known Christmas tunes and easy to play.
Nice to have a few duets too although some of the harmonies are a little strange and contrived

My daughter enjoyed working her way through these; she was at ~grade 1-2 standard at the time. Most are very well known tunes, always a bonus when learning to read music. Written in nice easy keys.

Lots of popular Christmas carols and written for beginners. Grade 1’s can easily play them as all pieces only require 1st position. A nice bonus is Auld Lang Syne and a ceilidh-like piece at the end which is great for Hogmanay and Burns night !!

Really enjoyed the simple and fairly well written carols in this book. Unfortunately the accompanying CD does not work properly and I didn’t find this out until much later so I am unable to return it. The sound is scratchy, and some songs just do not play, or stop in the middle. Very disappointing

Arrived quickly. Book is very easy to follow – our nine year old daughter could play Away in a Manger, Jingle Bells and Auld Lang Syne within an hour!! Good value.
