Charlie Faulkner: The 1 and Only
£9.50
Immortalised in Max Boyce’s ‘The Pontypool Front Row’, Charlie Faulkner was a key member of the 1970s Wales team which dominated Northern Hemisphere rugby, winning all four of the Five Nations Championships he played in, with three Triple Crowns and two Grand Slams. The early days, the glory years with Pontypool, Wales and the 1977 Lions, his time as a coach – in this long-awaited autobiography, Faulkner takes us behind the scenes and tells us in his own words how it was, with his trademark humility and humour. In progress when Faulkner died in early 2023 aged 81, the book has been completed by co-author Greg Lewis with input from teammates, friends and family.

I got this delivered late on Friday. I sat down at 7am on Saturday and read it right through. Charlie was my hero as a kid and into adulthood. This book is an account of his rugby life and some of his earlier personal life.
It’s a superb easy read from a top man. It’s so sad how Charlie passed away before it got released. I fully recommend this book to any rugby fan. One of the outstanding Pontypool Front Row.
Buy this and you won’t be disappointed. RIP Charlie you legend and thanks for the memories in the book.

Really enjoyed reading this book, an incredible inspiring story of a tough determined man who rose from Junior Union rugby at Whiteheads RFC in Newport to become part of the legendary Pontypool Front Row, a mainstay in the incredible 70’s Wales team and achieve the absolute pinnacle of rugby when he represented the British Lions. He did all of this through sheer hard work and determination. As a coach, he was underrated; he had an incredible career and had the ability to get his players to run through brick walls for him! He did all of this with a smile on his face with a wicked sense of humour….Loved by everyone who new him, he will be sorely missed….RIP Charlie x
