I bought this as an ebook when it was 99p and I’ve been so impressed that I’ve bought the hardback also. Because of COVID-19 I haven’t seen my best friend for over a year but every weekend we have been cooking together via face time and we are currently working our way through these curries. The recipes are deceptively simple but somehow have a depth of flavour that I’ve not achieved with any other Indian cookery book. Every single recipe has been delicious, and even our husbands (committed carnivores) haven’t missed the meat.

I’ve resolved to cook vegetarian food at least twice a week and this book is making it easy.

I well remember Chetna from the Great British Bake Off, with her imaginative use of spices and the flavours she produced. This book is about her family home cooking.

I started with the Roast Cauliflower Curry. It was delicious, with great use of spices. I’m about to cook the Mushroom and Cashew Curry followed by Masala Paneer. I think I’m going to have a vegetarian week.

As an ebook it’s exemplary. It’s very easy to navigate. Each chapter heading links to a linked list of descriptive recipes. Each recipe has a photo. There’s a good index too, organised by ingredient.

Recipes are straightforward and well described. Ingredients are for the most part everyday vegetables and accompaniments plus standard Indian spices easily obtained from the supermarket. I’ve just had to source a couple of things via Amazon (chaat masala and dried fenugreek leaves).

Chetna includes serving suggestions and advice on refrigerator storage for any leftovers.

    Strongly recommended.

Having great success on my introduction to cooking Indian food with this book. Ever recipe has a picture … which tempts me to try it out. I have cooked a number of recipes and each was good, if not excellent. Too, there is good variety. You will need access to a store with basic Indian spices but this list is not over the top. Very occasionally I come across an ingredient I cannot get and I just leave it out.
The index is sometimes not useful but flicking through the pages always gives me an idea.
Chetna gives storage advice for the recipes which is limited to the refrigeration. I would have really like to know about freezing – then I could double recipes.
SO PLEASED with this book and will use it time and time again.

I was impressed by a book about pickles and chutneys by the same author, so I picked this up as a 99p deal. It’s excellent.

I’ve downloaded to ipad where the colour photos of each dish really add to the experience. The hyperlinks work well and make it easy to browse. I’m not vegetarian, but I found a number of starters and mains which don’t use meat easy to prepare and really tasty. I have literally hundreds of cookery books collected over some 5 decades, but this is a little gem that I’m really happy to add to my collection. Chennai has an easygoing style of writing which makes the book a pleasure to browse. She uses easy to source ingredients and that makes this an ideal book for both novices and those with wider experience.

It’s well laid out, clear instructions and a great photo of the dish you want to achieve, I’m impressed.
