I refer to this book round often and therefore it is good to have it on Kindle. Although, I haven’t yet come across a better grammar than this; the problem is the small type face of the Chinese characters which do not enlarge on Kindle, so that it is hard to read them – it is hard also in the printed book. The next edition might take that into account.

A set text on the OU’s new Mandarin course, if you’re ordering this in preparation be warned: looking inside may put you off before you started!
Grammar isn’t easy, and Chinese grammar is complex. Reading this book without guidance is next to impossible (my Chinese friend looked at it and gave up claiming not to understand it! But then I probably wouldn’t understand an English grammar book…)
So buy the book and put it away until the course starts. It will all become clear.
