Children lern very fast how to play
by Dee
I bought this for my daughter to use at school after her teacher asked for this particular book to help her with her Clarinet lessons. It is great that it comes with a CD although my daughter has yet to use this because she has been busy working her way through the book. The book itself is laid our really well and it has a great selection of songs to play. This book has helped her come on leaps and bounds, as a new beginner she is already half way through the book and I have heard her play some of these songs very well. After her music lesson she will use the book to help her progress, I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone her wants to learn how to play the Clarinet.

Good for beginners with no knowledge of keys

This book is not as described at all. If you want a tutor book to teach yourself, there are far better books. The inclusion of a CD is misleading: it consists solely of backing tracks so you have no idea whether you are sounding the notes correctly. For a book aimed at beginners, a CD which actually featured a clarinet would have been much more useful.
The songs have no performance notes or guidance. I was enticed by the inclusion of Stranger on the Shore but, again, no guidance on how to play it and all you get on the CD is the backing track. I’m keeping the book though because, with the help of other tutor books, I may get to play some of these songs one day.
To sum up, a good a range of songs although you will need a teacher to tell you how to play them or even if you are playing them correctly. If you are trying to teach yourself (and we don’t have a lot of choice during lockdown), my advice is to try another tutor book.

All very well and good. But I received an email saying “amazon orders: why did my card decline?” so I assumed my order for this book was not going to come. So my wife went out and bought a copy from the music shop. When I realised it was a scam, I deleted the email. So I have an extra copy!
