Cold Blood: (Nick Stone Thriller 18)

£2.80

Out here, the cold isn’t the only killer.

Nick Stone is suffering. The two people he cared for most are gone.

Desperate for the chance to escape his misery, Stone heads north at the summons of his old SAS officer. Five ex-servicemen, badly wounded in Afghanistan, need his back-up for a trek to the North Pole.

They meet at the world’s most northerly airport where the polar bear threat makes it illegal not to carry a gun. But it doesn’t take long for Stone and his men to discover that the most dangerous predators in this part of the world walk on two legs, not four.

The coldest war of all is just beginning and Stone needs to pick a side.

Another good Nick Stone yarn. I did wonder if it was ever going to get to the action, the build up being a little tedious, but need not have worried as the action was fast and furious. I look forward to my next encounter.

If you like the nick stone series (which I do) it is more of the same. I we are honest then these books aren’t (not are they meant to be) literary masterpieces – but we like them for what they are….. a holiday page turner that feels familiar (you tend to see a similar vein run through a number of AMcN books) and not to taxing on the brain sells. For me this is perfect for my annual holiday read and I buy the new one eatery year! If like me this is your thing then you can’t go wrong with the latest instalment.

Having read a number of his books I was surprised by this one which I found quite tedious, even though there must have been a lot of research gone into the full location details, also the end happened too quickly and a bit amazing. It won’t stop me reading more Andy McNab.

Very entertaining book, I think it’s an improvement after a few not-so-great Nick Stone stories lately.

The carachter description is very funny and liked the emotional stuff about physical and mental injuries. I found the main story line impressive too, credible and very detailed indeed.

Some other reviewers wrote it started slow and finished rushed but I think they didn’t get the main story line, it’s not the usual high paced Nick Stone story where the action is constant, it’s more about the carachters and they ‘journey’. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s still full of the usual espionage and special forces thing with great description and details. Punch ups, spy stuff, shooting, reference to the army days, everything is there. Great book, much better than the last one (or two).

I enjoyed this book a great deal. It feels to me like the last couple of books have seen a definite lift in the quality of the Nick Stone Novels. This is not one of the best in the series but it is solid, especially given what happened in the last novel.
I will say that I think the last act of the book is a little rushed, and I am not that impressed with the ending but everything up to there was set up pretty well.
Again Nick Stone finds himself deep in trouble without knowing exactly what is going on and has to rely on his wits and his skills to survive improbable situations. If you are a fan of the series then this is definitely worth having. If you are new then I think there are better books to begin with, but this is standalone in the story it presents, as brief explanation is given to everything you need to know.

Another cracking adventure thriller from McNab, full of barracks room black humour, paced with critical detail of SAS survival, tactics, and a genuine grasp of human traits. This time, in grief, Nick Stone agrees to chaperone an ill matches band of ex-service wounded as they attempt to reach the North Pole, unaided, on skis. But there are various political, and big business groups squaring up to fight for mineral rights, and the hapless team are potentially an obstacle. With a shrewd knowledge of his former trade, and a grasp of real world events, McNab weaves a thrilling adventure. Great fun, pacey, and satisfying.

I like books that are an easy read. These are the ones that I read between trilogy’s or other serious tomes.
This would be better as an abridged version but it was okay.
