This map is such a great idea as I love visiting locations which have been on the telly so it gives you an idea of what was filmed for TV and film and where so makes you want to visit the area. The map covers the whole of Ireland so it only shows the major roads and the names of major towns and cities so the location of the filming is a rough guide, you would definitely need a more detailed map to find the actual sites. But as a large map you can plan your trip well from it but you would need another more detailed map when actually in the location. Love the idea of this map.

The “Collins Ireland Film & TV Location Map” is compact, measuring about 9cm by 14cm when fully folded and will easily slip into a coat pocket, ruck sack etc. It is a paper map (not card) so you will need to keep it dry and take a bit of care with it. It is not a bad map to have with you when exploring Ireland showing a reasonable level of detail of roads etc for planning your travels, with the added benefit of the TV and film locations, ranging from Father Ted to Saving Private Ryan. Star Wars and Game of Thrones fans in particular should find some interesting filming locations. Take this map with you on a holiday in Ireland, and you can check out what TV and film locations are nearby. There is text describing the way in which many of the locations were used, but others are just marked on the map. Either way you would probably need to do a bit more research to determine exactly where each location is. While that information on filming locations is available online, this map provides a useful way of reminding you what there is and where they are and helping you incorporate them into your holiday. I am looking forward to checking out a few of these locations to my next trip – particularly the Dark Hedges.

This isn’t a book so that’s false advertising, it’s a pamphlet of locations around Ireland that will get lost amongst other papers in my home as I can’t display it as a book.

Decent little map of Ireland with some fun facts about major productions. More a souvenir than something that can really be helpful en route – you’d need your phone for that. Decent price, nice idea.

This is a very small map of Ireland with a limited number of locations shown on it. It is double sided, with the top half of Ireland shown on one side and the bottom half on the other.
This would be fine to keep in the car to give you a vague idea of where each of the locations shown is in relation to the nearest towns and cities, but it’s not going to get you to the exact location…you will definitely need a larger scale map, or even better a sat nav.
There’s nothing wrong with this, but at £3.99 don’t expect to get anything particularly brilliant, or to have many filming locations shown.

This little fold-out map is the kind of thing I’d expect to pick up for free from a tourist information centre. It’s simply a big sheet of folded up paper, without even a card cover liked you’d get with an Ordnance Survey type map. It covers the whole island of Ireland so isn’t very big, but does show all the main roads and also railway lines which is useful. There’s a selection of films and TV programmes that have been filmed in Ireland marked on the map. There’s also a little write up of each one in the text, but it is necessarily brief given the amount of space available. For a real aficionado there’s also not a lot of detail there as some productions have multiple locations which is missed. Nevertheless all the main Game of Thrones locations are there. Paying good money for nothing more than a leaflet goes against the grain a little, but this is nicely made and up to date.

This Collins Film and TV Location Map of Ireland is very lightweight and compact; folded down, it is literally pocket-sized. The concept of providing film and TV locations makes an interesting change from standard sightseeing guides which focus on history and culture. The map itself provides a very helpful guide on a trip, enabling you to plan and navigate a journey across the Emerald Isle but, like any map, does need to be supplemented by more detailed information or a satnav for precise directions. Overall, I think this is a great map and it will definitely accompany me on my next trip to Ireland.
