This type of map is ideal for trip planning. It gives an over view of the whole of Scotland with major roads and ferry routes shown. Ideal for working out where you want to go and how you might get there. Filming locations from a range of tv shows and films are marked with more info about the most interesting sites in boxes at the side of the map. So if you are interested in these sites then it is an ideal way to plan a trip around them. It is not comprehensive of course, but does a decent job. The compact size of the map is handy but it does sacrifice detail and I would recommend and additional guide book to get the the best from your trip.

This handy little map of Scotland shows you where over 60 popular film and TV locations are, some of the locations included are where Harry Potter, James Bond and The Crown were filmed.
Even if you are not interested in the filming locations this little map is still a very handy little map of Scotland.
It is clearly printed and there are some bits with notes and photos of some notable locations.
The map folds out to be quite a large map but folds down to be pocket/ handbag/ rucksack size.
It a great little map for planning trips too and at £3.99 it’s not a bad price either.

I would describe this as a pocket-sized map with a caveat – it opens out to a huge map, so you need room and be in a wind free location to make the most of it.

The map itself is 8.7miles/inch (5.61km/cm) map of Scotland, including the Orkneys and Shetland – although the scale for Shetland is 12.4miles/inch (8.01km/cm). There are locations listed for major TV and film shoots, with Glasgow and Edinburgh city centres having a blown-up view too. Around the edge there is some information on some of these locations, talking more about them and roughly where they are.

The paper and printing are clear, although the central areas from Glasgow to Edinburgh is busy and awkward to read at times. With the scale being quite large, it isn’t easy to see exactly where the locations are (for example the icon is about 4mm in size, so sits over an area about 1.5*2.25km).

Overall, as a guide to filming locations in Scotland, this is good, but you are best using it with a more authoritative source as well, so you can find exactly the location if you are looking to visit.

This is a pocket sized map of Scotland showing some well known TV locations.

The detail is good and the print clear.

Fully unfolded, it’s quite a lot bigger than you might think but – folded – is great to slip into trouser pockets, rucksack, handbag etc.

Nice little gift for anyone interested in visiting Scotland especially if they also like visiting TV locations.

This is a pocket sized map of all of Scotland, so there is not a lot of detail. You can find your way to the scenery in Outlander for instance, but following Rebus through Edinburgh would not be so easy. If you are touring Scotland this would be a great addition to your trip as you can look and see what was filmed in the area when ever you stop. It is good value for money.

This little map folds down to about the size of 2 credit cards so is easily carried in a pocket or handbag, it opens out to a fairly large map so space is needed to open it fully but if out and about it can be opened to specific areas without needing to open the whole map and you’re unlikely to need the entire map if you’re looking for a specific area.

The actual markers for each filming location are fairly non-specific, giving a little icon roughly in the area of filming so if you want to narrow it down to exact locations you’ll need to supplement it with a more detailed description, there’s plenty of online reference to shooting locations which should help. This is more of a generic overview of locations giving an idea of density of filming within an area of the country and as such shouldn’t be used exclusively to find any particular location but more of a point in the general direction, you also get little snippets of information relating to the locations but again these are quite generic and if you want to know more detailed information additional reference material will be helpful. Think of this as a handy little overview that can help plan trips to areas you’re interested in, with additional information used from external sources to further enhance what is shown on the map. As someone that was born and brought up in one of the areas on this map that provided the backdrop to several TV shows and films, I have visited a good few of them already and this guide hits some of the key points for anyone looking to visit a location and see for themselves what inspired the filmmakers to use them in their productions, slightly biased I may be but there are certainly plenty of places to visit in Scotland that look worthy of inclusion in scenery intensive productions, a view shared by almost anyone that visits some of its unique and beautiful geography, just remember to pack some waterproofs!

This is little map that can fit in a jeans pocket. It has a scale of 8.7 miles to one inch.

Its selling point is that it gives filming locations for a number of films and TV shows that used Scottish locations. It is not exhaustive in that, and focuses on the best-known productions. There is also a small amount of blurb at the top-left corner which talks about some of the shows and their locations, giving a little contect to the locations shown on the map.

The map itself is pretty good. The filming locations are indicated by clapperboard symbols on the map, with the names of the productions alongside.

As a general map of the country, it’s pretty good, and the inclusion of the filming locations with a little background information is a nice idea. It’s a bit like the maps that you can get of where the stars live in Los Angeles, but with much more space (and better scenery) in between.

For £3.99, it’s a very handy reference to take with you if you’re visiting Scotland, and will be attractive for many locals too.
