Grumpy meets Sunshine in this hilarious festive romcom that will have you wishing for a HEA!
Sutton Alsop hates Christmas. So much so, when confronted with a house that looks like Santa himself vomited Christmas all over it, she accidentally (drunkenly) destroys every fairy light, fake reindeer and candy cane in sight. Unfortunately for Sutton, this house belongs to none other than Gus Langston, single dad and owner of the village’s year-round Christmas shop – aka Mr Christmas himself.
But Mr Christmas has a secret only Sutton knows…
With the two of them forced together for the holidays, the sparks between them are hot enough to melt even the coldest of hearts!

I adored this book! If you want a fun festive and spicey Christmas story then this one is for you just a whole lot of fun!
I liked that Sutton was a bit grumpy and enjoyed reading about Gus as a single father, Gus is just such a cinnamon roll of a character!
Highly recommend!

Who doesn’t love a good hallmark movie? Add that with Christmas and you got a double whammy. NOW make it a book and you scored big time. This is a single dad, nanny, opposites attracts and grumpy/sunshine but in reverse. While I loved the two mc and their attraction was evident I do think their connection was fast paced and it blindsided me. However all the attention to detail the author put in really made this stand out to me.

This book combined perfect ‘rom com’ lightness and giggles with contemporary emotional themes. Those themes included the betrayal (by romantic partners and platonic friends); the balancing of professional aspirations and the sacrifices required for love and the challenges of both single and step parenting.
The story revolves around Sutton, a South African newly arrived in the UK after backpacking in Europe and looking to secure a top Occupational therapy job for which she has recently qualified and Gus, a widower of twins running 2 businesses (his adventure business and his late wife’s Christmas shop), as well as being at the centre of running the village Christmas activities. The village is set in the British Lake District: cue snow related cosiness and a myriad of Christmas stereotypes. There is a small cast of colourful surrounding characters: Gus’s aristocratic Mum-in-Law and the gay male best friends/neighbours/babysitters.
The book is fairly log-form (just over 300 pages) and there is a LOT going on as each lead has much emotional baggage to unpack. Sutton is looking for freedom to build a successful career after a difficult childhood carrying responsibilities for bringing up her younger siblings and at the time the book is set, she is dealing with a best friend who is behaving very badly. Gus is dealing with his wife’s death; the circumstances of her death and trying to carry on her “Christmasholic’ legacy; as well as raising 2 demanding children. This baggage forms the emotional tension in this romance.
As always with Ms Wood’s books the emotional landscape is dealt with in a modern and mature manner and the hero and heroine are given equal space to breathe and work out their issues. This all takes place alongside festive fun. Accordingly, this was a light but longer read, with interesting issues well dealt with and sympathetic & likeable characters. My emotional engagement with this was not as high as some other romances, but I very much enjoyed it.
I read an advance copy of this book.

Fun and sexy and easy to read! Confessions of a Christmasholic is a wonderful holiday read. I love the relationship and dynamic between Gus and Sutton! It’s so nice to read about a woman admitting she’s not ready to be a stepmom or ready to be responsible for someone else’s children and that it’s not a reason for a breakup. Sutton and Gus are so well written and relatable and realistic. The entire setting and all the side characters are lovable and charming. The cover is cute and festive. I really enjoyed reading this book and have been left with a very cosy feeling!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Joss Wood is a new author for me but I really enjoyed this book. I instantly warmed to Sutton’s character and thought Moira was hilarious. It’s a warm hearted, festive read that will keep you entertained throughout. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
