SHARING

Some people think I don’t like sharing, but that isn’t true at all. I love sharing. I mean, what’s not to love about being able to go up to someone and say, “Hey, can I have some of that candy?” And then they give you some! Or, “Can I ride your bike for a while?” And then you get to ride their bike! Sharing is awesome. Sometimes you have to be careful, though. Like if someone comes up to me and says, “Can I have one of your cookies?” Well, if I gave them a cookie, then I might not have any cookies left to share with other people and that would be, like, the opposite of sharing. So I have to say no. Because sharing is really important.

SCOUT

Before we moved here, we had this big dog named Scout. Mom always said he was a total mutt, but I think he was also part collie. And maybe part golden retriever. But he was definitely at least half mutt. Scout was supposed to be the whole family’s dog, but he was really mine. I mean, after school, it was me he would be waiting for. And when anyone threw his ball, I’m the one he always brought it back to. And at night, it was always my bed he slept in. But before we moved here, my Mom found out we weren’t allowed to have any pets, so we had to give him away to my cousins. I don’t really talk about it, but sometimes I dream about Scout. He’s got his ball in his mouth and he’s looking for me. And I’m saying, “Here, Scout. I’m right here.” But he doesn’t hear me, and he can’t see me, and I’m saying, “I’m right here. Scout. I’m right here.” And then, I don’t know, I guess I wake up . . . I don’t know if Scout dreams about me.

If you are a Drama teacher looking for quality monologues then this is not the book for you. Drama teachers need to use monologues from published plays which these are not. I returned the book.

Full dislosure, I returned the book. This book has some really short monolouges. Like 1 paragraph short and while this in on itself isn’t a bad thing there hasn’t been much thought going into any of them.

None of the monolouges have character names. Nor do they have preambles about what is happening in the scene. It just looks like it was a few monolouges slapped together for a quick buck, wasn’t impressed with the price I paid vs what I actually got so felt a bit robbed to be honest. Even an age range of the characters would have been a nice addition, as it stands it holds the bare basics to call itself a monologue book.

There was maybe a handful of good monolouges (and ironically only a one of them was more than a single paragraph) however again there was no context to the characters or anything like that. It would suit really young kids (it does say young actors) but gives no guidence on what age range each Monologue should be for. There is a huge difference in reading and comprehension ability of a 4 year old and a 7 year old for example. (I’d consider both these young actors)

Have seen other Monologue books for similar or cheaper price that has done a lot more for my money. Book promptly returned.

Great! Has helped me at my Drama school. These pieces are a little short so they won’t suffice for most exams, however they are brilliant for practice. Youngsters would love this!

Excellent pieces of varying length. My eleven year old daughter is genuinely excited about learning several of the pieces. Good range of emotions and styles. Very impressed.

Great for beginners that want to memorise a monologue for an audition or even just for fun. I recommend this to anyone wanting to learn the art of acting!
