I have given three stars because 2 stars are “don’t like it”
I agree with all the other comments “OK for US but no good for UK” I hope the blurb is changed to reflct this.
There are some good points but overall a disaappointment,but considering the cost I will put this down to experience.
I ave noticed however that the standard of news bulletins now seems to have slipped into mid Atlantic mode so perhaps this book may be useful after all. There are now verbs like “showcase” “hike” !!!! What happened to presented and increase.

I bought this book after borrowing it from the library, knowing the content is excellent. Unfortunately the first page of each ‘Part’ (the one with the cartoon and brief introduction to that section) has been inserted at the end of each ‘Part’. A shame considering the subject matter, but out of the hands of the author.

Comprehensive coverage of proofreading and copyediting including setting up as a business.
It serves both as a fine introductory read and detailed reference guide for ongoing use.
It is especially aimed at the US market but as someone based in the UK I still found very much that was helpful.

I have used ‘for Dummies’ books before and they have always been helpful. Not this one. I have three big issues with it:
1. The book was published in 2007 and does not seem to have been updated or revised. Since then we have had the self-publishing revolution, ebooks, iPads, Kindles and more. This book is almost entirely devoted to the paper format. To get an idea of just how dated it is, there is advice to pay extra and purchase a flat panel monitor when buying a PC. There are sections on how to use the search facility in Word and what a PDF document is. These days most five-year-olds will know that. Believe me, this book should be in a museum.
2. The book is very US centric which is fine if you are American. Since I am British much of the information about contacts, spelling and the like did not apply.
3. The ‘For Dummies’ books are known to be light-hearted and jokey, but this book takes it to the extreme. It was sometimes difficult to find the useful information hidden amongst all the jokes and metaphors. Sometimes, I felt like screaming “Just get on with it, I don’t want any more anecdotes.”
Until this book is updated, it is virtually useless.
