Chloe can’t wait for Christmas . . . to be over! Her son Ruben is staying with his dad and Chloe is planning to ignore the holidays altogether. Her only festive touch is her son’s advent calendar, to help count down the days till he’s home again.
But a surprise call changes everything. Chloe might be the unexpected owner of some land in Canada! Surely, it’s a scam. Or could it be just the escape she needs right now? Ruben’s latest note in the advent calendar tells her to ‘say yes!’
In a flash, Chloe’s new countdown to Christmas involves a log cabin in the middle of a snowy forest, a community that’s worried for its future, a gruff lumberjack who gives her butterflies and a lot of pancakes with maple syrup . . .

A couple of twists, snow, romance, and Christmas, what more could you want! A fantastic book that I couldn’t put down. Looking forward to reading the next book by this author!

I am half way through and having to read it slower because I love it so much. Jo Thomas books are the best, always thoroughly researched, always teach you something interesting, never lazy and always make you want to book a trip!
The sense of place Jo creates is always so good, I am there in my head and it’s never been ‘over explained’ (which I can’t bear!)
I was honestly sold on this from the first few pages as I knew I would be.

Really enjoyed this story which had a different storyline than the tried and tested routes. Nothing wrong with them and who doesn’t love a feel good tale, but very nice to have a change.
No unnecessary F bombs and swearing either which is also a big bonus. Thoroughly recommend this as a winter read.

Jo Thomas is an author who always takes you to interesting places and allows you to learn about new cultures and customs. This is such a beautiful book about taking Chloe who may (or may not) have inherited land in Canada and how she tackles all the challenges and takes chances on her journey of discovery. It’s also a beautiful story, essentially about finding yourself, a community and love. I adored this book, and it is such a lovely, unusual Christmas story. A great read, and one of Jo Thomas’ best.
