‘Ground-breaking. Everyone should read this book’ Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score

When it comes to understanding the connection between our mental and physical health, we should be looking at the exceptions, not the rules.

Dr Jeff Rediger, a world-leading Harvard psychiatrist, has spent the last fifteen years studying thousands of individuals from around the world, examining the stories behind extraordinary cases of recovery from terminal illness.

Observing the common denominators of people who have beaten the odds, Dr Rediger reveals the immense power of our immune system and unlocks the secrets of the mind-body connection. In Cured, he explains the vital role that nutrition plays in boosting our immunity and fighting off disease, and he also outlines how stress, trauma and identity affect our physical health.

In analysing the remarkable science of recovery, Dr Rediger reveals the power of our mind to heal our body and shows us the keys to good health.

‘In an era of incurable chronic diseases causing 60% of all deaths worldwide, this book provides one potential way out’ Dr Mark Hyman, author of The Blood Sugar Solution

‘Seasoned with the author’s penetrating insights about healing, clearly articulated science and illuminating case histories, Cured opens genuine vistas of transforming illness into health’ Gabor Maté, author of When the Body Says No

Such an inspiring book, of a doctor’s journey investigating the phenomenon of spontaneous remission. His honesty and broad-mindedness are very engaging as many different patients and their stories challenge his world-view and beliefs. One of those rare books that I soon wanted to not read it anymore as I didn’t want it to end -:)

This is one of the most thought provoking books I have read in a long time
I bought this because a close family member has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer (due to failings of successive GP’s and two consultants to take her symptoms seriously).
It has been totally devastating for us but particularly her and even now she is only been offered limited conventional treatment due to other health issues.

Being someone who has always believed the mind body and spirit should be treated as one and how important it is to treat the cause rather than just focusing on the symptoms (like Eastern Cultures).

I am dismayed by how the minds of the NHS, medical profession and NICE are closed, even dismissive to anything other than drugs and not interested in providing or even considering a total holistic approach to illness.

NICE will only ever provide treatments which pass its scientific measurement and not all treatments can be judged that way.
And so doctors in this country are only trained to prescribe drugs and not trained even in things like vitamins, minerals or nutrition or anything else which may provide wellness and could even reverse disease.

This book provides real life stories and discusses points in history when various discoveries were derided but could have been hugely beneficial in medical advancement and it demonstrate just how important other factors are in healing and reducing inflammation.

I read this book in a week and found it to be enlightening, informative and hopeful.
I really do think its a must read for anyone who is suffering from not just cancer but any sort of inflammatory illness

Everyone should read this book!! It’s full of hope and stories rooted in science. I hope he is right about the progression of medicine and with that the decline of chronic illness.

So many of the stories and anecdotes in this book rang loud bells for me. Love conquers all(or nearly all!). Self love for oneself and love for your fellow human beings

This is an important work. As someone who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer two and half years ago and offered nothing but the usual radiotherapy – which I had and thoroughly regret – I refused further surgery. I’m 72. The medics were inflexible, the treatment they offered grim, hospitals in the UK appear to offer little alternative to the standard chop-’em-up, stick a stoma bag on and bung them solid with chemicals approach. I decided to go it alone. I have always eaten carefully but even tightened that up, and did pretty much what he describes in this book, so it has been a great delight to read it. I’m pretty fit, walk and exercise and get on with life and thank God I didn’t allow myself to get carved up and go through all the misery that accompanies it. There are some real revelations in this book for those who are looking for another route, it’s an enjoyable, informative and scholarly read. I like the way he tells us what spontaneous recoveries appear to share in common and the great hope it has brought those who have stepped aside from the deadweight on conventional medicine and looked for more enlightened paths. I sincerely hope he has thrown open door to a far wider comprehension of how the human body works rather than the blinkered way that so much of modern medicine slavishly and unimaginatively follows. Bravo Dr. Rediger, you’re a great man! I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent book.

I love this book and have recommended it to friends and family many times. As a complementary health practitioner with a science background, I like the way it scores on both counts. Dr Rediger has carried out his research meticulously, investigating the data and distilling the conclusions into a very easy to read and comprehend book. If you are interested in living a long and healthy life, it is a must read!

I could not put the book down! It is a must read for everyone. I bought two – I bought this book for my sister who is unwell but I started to read it on the train just to check that I hadn’t made a mistake with my purchase and it would be good for her to read. It is a fantastic book I love the author I found the book so interesting and I will read it again.
