£9.50
Volume 3 contains novels seven to nine of the Dance To The Music Of Time sequence.
Anthony Powell’s brilliant twelve-novel sequence chronicles the lives of over three hundred characters, and is a unique evocation of life in twentieth-century England. It is unrivalled for its scope, its humour and the enormous pleasure it has given to generations.
In this volume, containing books seven to nine of the sequence, Powell follows Nicholas Jenkins and a host of familar and newer characters through the strains, absurdities and preoccupations of England at war.

Thought provoking at times though uneven and irritating overall through a tendency to divert into irrelevant intellectual reminiscences and timeline inconsistencies.
by John Carter
A very unusual book in that it describes the actions and motivations of the characters as observed by the narrator without imposing
his own views and opinions. It certainly makes you think about human nature.

I’m only part way through this volume but am on track to complete the Dance within a year; one volume a month.

An excellent and well written set of books for those who enjoy good english

This extraordinary saga, a semi-autobiographical account of a group of contemporaries at school (sounds like Eton) in the 1920s whose lives criss-cross each other during the history of the 20th century, is entertaining and easy to read. You can look up on the web for ‘best guesses’ as to who the characters are based upon, and I suspect that it is remarkably accurate portrayal of upper-middle and upper class England over the period. Highly recommended. Volume 3, the original volume 7-9, continues with the war years.

So Glad I discovered this incredible sequence of novels. Am having a bit of trouble keeping up with the enormous cast of characters because I had a break and read a couple of library books in between which was a bit of a mistake but I can always re-read Autumn. Something to look forward to.

This is the third time I have read this trilogy. It gets better, and I see more, each time. It deserves to be better known.
