But Logan isn’t the man he used to be—or the asset he once was. Five months ago, his life changed forever when he was captured, tortured, and left for dead by Youssef Selim, one of the world’s most violent terrorists.

When Selim mysteriously reappears in Paris, linked to the kidnapping of America’s attorney general, Logan smells his chance for revenge. Pursuing his man relentlessly, oblivious to the growing trail of destruction he leaves in his wake, Logan delves deeper and deeper into the web of lies and deceit surrounding the kidnapping. Is he about to learn just what it means to dance with the enemy?

Carl Logan is a man who has been trained to take orders and not ask questions but after things go wrong on a recent job he’s no longer the same agent he was. He’s been broken and it’s clear throughout the story that while he’s still good at his job he’s just not as focused as he should be.

From the first big scene involving the kidnapping of the Attorney General Frank Modena I was hooked. The detail had me gripped as I focused on the action.

Logan is sent in to find and retrieve the Attorney General little does he know that the man who broke him is involved somewhere along the line.

What happens next is a great spy thriller where Logan has to put the pieces together and find out what’s truly happening. It’s clear to Logan from the start not everything is clear cut as some would like it to be.. so what is the real truth behind the kidnapping??

I won’t give the game away but the author did throw in some great twists. One i’ll admit i thought was coming but as to how it played out i had no idea.. and wow..it’s a good one.

Development is a big thing for me. Not only do i have to like the characters but i need to see a path for them to grow and Rob Sinclair delivered everything i could have wanted with Logan. You’re given tit bits of info building as the story unfolds and this way of developing the lead character really helped hook me in.

I loved that Logan isn’t perfect..he’s far from it. You know he won’t come out of this without a scratch and it just makes the whole tale all the more gripping.

The supporting characters were pretty well covered too. i loved the way the author managed to again give little bits of info.. just enough at the time but never overdoing it..keeping you just a little in the dark to everyone’s motivations.. as it should be with a spy thriller.

When i reached the end i could easily see why so many people had given great reviews..it’s more than deserved.

This tale is ultimately about revenge. It’s full of action and intrigue. The plot has to be the number 1 thing that stood out for me.. lot’s of different motivations and agendas and i just couldn’t put it down

Dance with the Enemy by Rob Sinclair 5/5 stars
Firstly staying vague and spoiler free I will just say that if you haven’t yet read this book don’t read this review as further down it will contain spoilers instead go read the book as it’s brilliant 😉
******Ok spoilers below you’ve been warned*****
On starting this book I was wary that it would need to grab me instantly as I tend to dip into the thriller genre between chick lit and romance reads so if it doesn’t grab me instantly I get bored…..within a couple of pages I was hooked 😮 with a fast paced start it was hard not to continue reading as the plot unfolded and what started as a dip into the book became a 4-5 chapter start to the book 😉 (sadly at this point I had to put the book down to read something else that was time sensitive to finish so it was a while before I continued) when I came back to this book the second time I expected to need to back track a bit but instead found I fell straight back into the story without any need to refresh my memory of the earlier chapters and again got quickly gripped into the storyline. I found this book had great attention to detail without becoming over descriptive and boring in the process and some of the more gruesome scenes had me feeling quite sick to the stomach (though I’m a wuss when it comes to gruesome) and gave me a huge amount of empathy towards the characters. I loved the main character Carl Logan (known as other names within the story too being an undercover agent) though possibly not intended I found some of his intended covert ops quite humorous as they went askew in ways you wouldn’t think possible for someone so well trained (lol). Which in turn made me feel sorry for his boss Mackie who seemed to spend more time covering Logan’s tracks than working up new intelligence 😔
Further characters provided great additions to the storyline and although when things seemed to be tying up I knew there had to be more due to having a chunk of book left it didn’t occur to me that the story was heading in the direction that it ended up going in which made for a nice surprising twist at the end….looking forward to the next book in the series but will be sure to make sure my schedule is clear next time so I don’t have to put the sequel down 😉

I never leave a book unfinished. I start it, I finish it. Sometimes that means that I have to wade through treacle. When I put such a book down, it’s a chore to pick it up again. Not so with Dance with the Enemy, definitely not so. This is a pulsating ride from its explosive opening to its shock ending. A great story, brilliantly drawn characters and non-stop action. I couldn’t put it down and when I had to, in the wee small hours, I couldn’t wait to pick it up again.

From the Prologue it is immediately obvious that here is an author who not only can tell a story, he can write as well…and write brilliantly. Less than 2% into the book and I was totally hooked. A tough secret service on sick leave gets an urgent call from his boss. He has a new assignment but is he ready for it? Toss in a psychopathic villain and a beautiful FBI agent who gets caught up in the maelstrom and you have all the ingredients for a superb thriller. And, man, does Sinclair know how to mix them!

Dance with the Enemy easily competes with the likes of Lee Child, David Morell, Robert Ludlum. Rob Sinclair is right up there. His Logan is as appealing as Jack Reacher, more vulnerable, perhaps, less sure of himself, but every bit as tough and equally unafraid to break the rules to ensure that justice is done. This story is as good as anything Child has written. All Sinclair needs is the elusive ‘break’. The talent is already there. I can see a great series follow from this exceptional debut…and I will want to read them all.

If you love thrillers, buy this book. It’s a must read.
