Fantastic read, I am now looking at working through the course lessons one at a time.
Very informative and hopefully will help me to improve my photography. I have been practicing for the last near 35 years and now really wish to advance but hold back from the college courses that are fairly expensive and time consuming, this is the ideal way for me.
Good read, informative, and very highly recommended for the beginner or like myself, the advance amateur.

This is an excellent book for photographers of all levels. I bought one for myself originally as the reviews gave me confidence that I would learn a lot from it and enjoy doing so. I have limited technical knowledge but I do enjoy taking a good picture. The only problem is getting to read the book as the other (very experienced) photographer in our household kept borrowing it as he too thought it was excellent. When I did manage to finally get my hands on it I discovered that it is all I hoped it would be – great for a relatively inexperienced photographer but will be useful as you progress in skill. I bought a copy for an adult nephew for Christmas as he is making good use of his digital SLR and he is delighted with it.

Very intuitive book, one to keep for ever as there is so much to do and so much to learn.
If you have been disappointed in the past with some books which maybe concentrate on beginner to intermediate, then this book will serve you well as Tom Ang assumes you have reasonable technical camera knowledge and some sort of photographers eye.
He puts you through the paces but its well worth the ride!

I didn’t like this as a beginner to photography. I felt that it threw me right in at the deep end with lessons and tasks and plenty of pictures, but the descriptions were too tecnical and didn’t really mean much. I think someone doing a course or someone who has some experience would find this book good, but not a beginner.

I returned it and got the Beginners Photography Guide from DK instead and have found that brilliant, giving me plent of ideas.

    Hope that helps.

As I have only read up to chapter 5 so far (due to work) I am find this book very good indeed reading each chapter sometimes twice then reverting back to other books on the subject, already I can see improvements in my photo’s I can recommend this book to any person who wishes to improve their photography.

I’ve had a copy for a few years and it has given me a greater insight into image-manipulation. A mass of techniques are covered with step by step tips that are well illustrated. I’ve only used a fraction of the book as I do not spend as much time as I would like to producing a better image. This was bought as a prezzie, hope the recipient gets as much out of it as I.

Tom Ang is well known for his photographic knowledge and being able to impart that knowledge to others. If I have any negatives about this book it is that it is aimed more at someone who has a fair understanding of photography rather than the complete novice.

    Excellent and inspiring.

Perfect for the DSLR photographer who perhaps knows the basics and wants to take things further.

Great examples, techniques and ideas to give your creativity a ‘shot in the arm’. Covers some good theory too so that you have a context for why you are doing things a certain way.

It covers the basics well too, good as a refresher, but a complete beginner may want to look at a simpler introductory book first.
