Alright but not worth the money you need to play with the camera

This very attractive, well laid-out book has stunning photographs and is a comprehensive collection of magazine-type project ideas and technique hints. Some articles relate to specific seasonal conditions but many projects can be applied at any time of the year. Really this book could just as easily be organised alphabetically as an encyclopedia of photography rather than in 12 chapters named after each month.
This book is aimed at those who want to progress from point-and-shoot photography and start exploring their cameras settings.
I would recommend this book to anyone with a budding interest in photography. Experienced DSLR photographers may, like me, be a little disappointed. I’m only awarding 3 stars as I was hoping for more advanced technical insight into photographing in various seasonal light and weather conditions.

The book is intended to be a starting point when your creativity is feeling a little flat. And as such it does a pretty good job.
It doesn’t set the world alight but has some good imagery and wise words to help job the old brain cells.
My photography user level is advanced and so I didn’t need an “explain every detail” kind of book and which is why I like this book. You’ll never get a single book to suit everyone but this would come fairly close because it has a good balance of ideas and tech details.

I noticed this book whilst browsing the shelves of a well known high street store. Rushed home and ordered myself a copy via Amazon at a much reduced price. Book arrived today and I have already produced a very different and interesting photo of nothing more exciting than eggs in a saucepan of water !!
As a keen hill walker I really only take snaps to record where I’ve been. However, this book has given me some excellent tips and ideas on how to create more interesting photos. Some of these tips I had slowly begun to discover for myself simply by taking lots of photographs and then seeing which of them appeal. Other tips I doubt I would ever have discovered for myself. I really like the month-by-month format and it has been written in a relatively jargon-free style.
Keen amateur photographers probably won’t need as much help with the technical aspects associated with depth of view, exposure etc but they may well discover new and more interesting ways of framing their chosen subject.

Loads of books out these giving advice on how to use your camera, but not so many providing ideas of what to photograph. This book is packed with hundreds of ideas. Easy to read and understand. Invaluable.
