I heard a good few stating that the state of the package was subpar at best, causing damage before delivery. But mine came in top condition. I would suggest to have more secure packaging however, as it felt pretty thin compared to the weight and size of the book.

But I do highly suggest this if you’re wanting to get into Dungeons & Dragons. I’ve learned some interesting things about the game which I didn’t previously know about, and to add, it has a great anti-slip segment on the back! I felt it was a nifty little addition that helps quite well without it sliding all over a table while reading.

I’ve been a D&D player on and off for many years. My daughter has now started playing and I’ve been invited to join the group, so I figured it was time to update things (I was still on 3.5).
After seeing some of the reviews on here I was slightly concerned about what I’d get, but the book is fine. There’s no damage or print errors, and it’s easy to use. My only minor complaint is that when you look something up in an index it shouldn’t say “see………”

This has everything a new player would need to get involved in playing DnD, yes some things aren’t inside that are in other books but as a new player this has 95% of what you will need, and you can very easily find what isn’t online if you ever even need it (such as playing artificer etc).
Arrived in great condition, binding for the book is holding together with no issues at all after much use.

This book won’t include loxodon or any newer races, but it’s still very informative and worth the money!

NECESSARY DISCLAIMER With a revised/updated players handbook releasing some time in 2024, unless you see yourself getting a lot of use out of this book in the next year, you may want to wait.

Very very useful rulebook for both players and DMs, the only core book I’d say is a nigh on necessity alongside the basic rules, the other core books have very useful stuff too, but they’re things that you can kinda freestyle your own homebrew stuff using the basic rules as examples, but the players handbook adds a ton of player options that are core to the game, with 8 more classes than those rules and at least 2 subclasses for each class (basic rules only has the “default” subclass for fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric) as well as by being a physical book, is a great resource to reference for the fundamental rules of combat, exploration, spellcasting and other important features. It can be overwhelming to read especially with all the flavour text surrounding and built in amongst the actual rules that it can be hard to read what something actually does, but this is a problem with basically every wotc dnd procut except monster stat blocks for the most part.

Exactly what I wanted, delivered when stated, very happy.

Bought as a birthday gift requested by a relative.
Very happy with content of book, less happy with its condition:
    1) no dust cover (although I don’t know if it comes with one usually)
    2) front hardcover slightly damaged on 2 bottom corners as if it had been dropped at some stage.
However, recipient of gift was eager to read it so did not want me to return/replace it.
