Bought for my little brother, who has moved to the Netherlands. He is enjoying the book and the computer disc that came with it, and he is learning Dutch very well. Even his Dutch girlfriend said it is a very well constructed book showing the words and how to pronounce them correctly.

The book is easy to follow. But – there is no accessible download content it seems. Therefore, only give it 3 stars as it appears to be a dummie con. How can they state that it includes Downloadable Content with Real Dutch dialogue? Everyday conversations? Easy to follow pronunciations? – All within the Downloadable Content, plus a table inside the book explaining what the downloadable content contains. Misleading with a capital M!

Right so I’ve just started seeing a lovely English guy who lives in Rotterdam and while I speak German from being a kid I have no Dutch. I hate hate hate going somewhere and feeling like I don’t know what is going on so I bought this to learn a few basic phrases and not feel so much like a spare part when we’re out and about.
First of all the pronunciation is spelled out phonetically in the actual book and the CD gives you it so you can hear what is going on. He’s been learning Dutch for work a different way and I have to say that this book is better than his for the actual grammar side of things. I’m practising hard and on my second visit last month I have to say I felt a lot more confident than I thought I would.

Well written, the cd helps to tune your ear to the language. I’m having fun learning and even at my age, I’m picking it up easily. If you are self-teaching this is the one to go for as your main study material. The text is not ‘dry’, yet if you wish there is a chapter on grammar. Almost as much fun as an Andre Rieu concert.

The CD is initially a little off-putting because there is very little English on it. But after several listens (and looking at the transcripts in the book), it gets easier and in fact it is nice not having the English there. Book seems well explained and well laid-out. Yet to test my learning out on any native speakers!

My boyfriend bought this product to learn dutch so that he’d be able to speak with my family in their first language. He has learned some dutch from it and he swears it has some great tips on how to learn a new language.
From my point of view, being dutch and all, I found that some of the words are not actually dutch but german instead and some of the pronounciation tips are bit interesting and I don’t believe it reflects the actual language. Although I do understand that it is a really hard language for English people to pronounce so maybe that is as good as it gets. So, all in a all a good product for people just starting out as long as you are prepared for native dutch speakers to give you a hint or two about your pronounciation and finding it a bit interesting that you are talking to them in german (only some words, and dutch people will still be able to understand you very well, so no worries there).

There is no CD with this it is online access to the audio. I have bought this in preparation for visiting my best friend who is Dutch and she is helping me with the pronunciation as is her son as both speak excellent English. I want to learn a bit of Dutch out of respect for them and this book is ideal
