The laugh-out-loud romcom of the year! Perfect for fans of Mhairi McFarlane, Beth O’Leary and Jasmine Guillory.
Young lawyer Alexa Humphries’s one true love is her precious duvet, yet she is torn from its comforting embrace every morning while the foxes are still scavenging the bins outside and doesn’t get back until long after most normal people are already asleep. Worn down by the endless demands of her suspicious boss and her competitive, high-flying housemate and fellow lawyer, Zara, Alexa barely recognises herself anymore. This wasn’t how life was supposed to be.
But today is different. Today, Alexa just cannot get out of bed to face the world. Everyone deserves a duvet day, don’t they?

Alexa, a junior lawyer in a prestigious London law firm, decides to have a duvet day. Unfortunately things don’t turn out well as she becomes locked out of her flat wearing a unicorn onesie. Cue a day of mayhem, rather than her hoped for rest, chasing after a news photographer who snapped pictures of her in a highly embarrassing situation.
This started off reminding me of one of those old Whitehall farces with a series of unbelievable, but very funny events. As the story developed it became much deeper than that as we begin to find out more about Alexa and the strain that she is under in her job and her dreams of where she would like her career to progress towards. She goes through both highs and lows with Sam, the photographer, with a series of calamities, mixed with successes. The lows for me added to the story, broadening it from a comedy to a much deeper, whilst still funny, book. Definitely a recommended read by this new to me author.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book and I have purchased it as I enjoyed it so much.

Thank you Emily for writing such a gloriously funny tale (Unicorn’s of course) I couldn’t put it down. It would make a wonderful film.

I started to read this and i didn’t really think it was going to be for me, but page by page, i enjoyed Alexa’s exploits more and more. Its a lighthearted read with underlying messages about kindness and good over evil with some romance thrown in too. Give it a go, you’ll probably surprise yourself that you enjoy it, too. :0)

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and the characters were likeable.
I could not put it down and ended up reading it all in one go. It also brushes up on stress and how debilitating it can be particularly when it’s obvious signs are ignored.
You will laugh, be fearful and want Alexa to be happy and to fulfil her dreams…

I think I loved this story because I can see myself in the main character – Poor Alexa can’t do right for doing wrong, and boy does it go horribly wrong! But the young lawyer is very endearing as she navigates her way through one bad decision after another, and the people she meets along the way add to the comedy. A great holiday read, a feel good romance and I will be keeping an eye out for Emily Kerr’s work, she is one to watch.

When I first started reading this I wasn’t too sure about it. It turned out to be different from what I thought it would be. The more I read, the more it grew on me. In the end I couldn’t put it down. Thoroughly enjoyable read. Some funny moments. A lot is packed into one day. A bit implausible but then that’s why it is a novel. I’ll look out for more books by this author. Not read her before. If you want an amusing story, I recommend this.

I have a theory that books that are described as laugh out loud and feel good, are not and sadly this book confirms that opinion, because I couldn’t find the laughs and I wasn’t feeling uplifted at the end of it.
Alexa is very definitely overworked and under a lot of pressure, I know people who work these hours, definitely not for the faint hearted and this day, at the end of her tether, she takes a sick day. However, her planned duvet day doesn’t work out as she had planned, she has doesn’t even get to stay in bed, but she got to have lots of new experiences. There were some twists which gave it a more positive feel at the end but not enough to redeem the book for me.
