Dyslexia Assessor Craig Keane, Director of Develop Us in Wales. “I’m a specialist dyslexia assessor and teacher. I was looking for a book to recommend to parents of children I assess and teach. I wasn’t expecting to learn much from the book because I’m a specialist in this field. I was wrong! Beth presents interesting statistics about dyslexia and how it can impact people in society. She explores different ways you can explain dyslexia to anyone of any age using the octopus theory! I highly recommend this book to parents, teachers, specialists and anyone who would like to educate themselves about dyslexia!”
Katharine Beaumont, Dyslexia Tutor B.Ed.Sc.Dip.Tchg.CAT. “This book was like turning a light on for me. I’ve worked in the field of learning disabilities for years, and yet it has taught me so much. It’s full of humor, help, humility and hope.”
★★★★★ Anni, Amazon U.S.A reviewer. “While reading this book, I have several “Ah ha!” moments that explain my child’s behavior. The book made me feel I had confided all my concerns to her, and she gave me answers. I read articles, research papers and other books, but none have really explained to me so well the many “whys?” and what I need to know about my child. This book helped me not just understand but strategize to get better results out of my child without draining a lot of energy.”

Really enjoyed this and although focussed on anecdote and first person experience it was helpful in getting a birds eye view of dyslexia. Was disappointed when a random bible story was included and a section about how becoming a Christian and how it had helped!

Amazing book, to learn more on not just on academically, how a day to day life is like, emotions are effected. Excellent book I’m so glad I bought this book, haven’t put it down since it’s arrived, understand my daughter more and realisation of her traits

I am half way though this book and felt compelled to write a review already. The book has a very chatty and friendly tone and in amongst all the information I have read about dyslexia this makes the most sense and is actually comforting to read- it is not a ‘how to’ book, just a discussion with lots of facts and tips to look into separately without getting overloaded with the technicalities, I love that it is centred on this mothers experience, it is not at all ‘preachy’ or judgemental, and has made me look at learning in an amazing new way, all of which I hope will be of benefit to my daughter. You won’t be disappointed if you buy this book.

I bought this book earlier this week and have finished it in 2 days. When I found the book I thought the reviews were a bit over the top/false but decided to give it a go, and I’m so glad I did. If you are dyslexic, think you might be, have a child with dyslexia or think they might be, then this book is a must for you. It is exceptionally well written and I could not put it down. There’s really useful practical advice and I’ve learnt so much. It felt like a light bulb moment after the first chapter. I can’t thank Beth enough for having the courage to write this book. I’ve never left a review before but felt compelled to do so this time. If you have any doubts, buy it! You’ll be glad you did.

Our daughter is likely to have mild dyslexia (currently age 6) and I was looking for 10 helpful tips on how to support her as stated on the cover of this book.
Despite her possible dyslexia our daughter absolutely thrives at school and is doing great academically – this maybe due to her personality and the fact that I have put things in place at home to support her as I suspect she maybe dyslexic. Both me and my husband are and have done well
academically and in life – we’ve never let it stop us but have had some extra support along the way. I expect our daughter will need the same.
I kept going with this book but gave up when it started talking about how children/teens with dyslexia are more likely to self harm and to be sexually abused!! Also how they can be emotionally behind their peers. Perhaps I just couldn’t relate because this isn’t the case for our daughter.
Far too negative for my liking and not what I was expecting from the reviews

I have read this book from cover to cover, popping post it’s onto pages where great books, websites and suggestions are mentioned. My only regret is that it isn’t available in audio format. My 6 year old granddaughter is not progressing so well in school with phonetics, spelling and numeracy and her teacher has suggested seeking additional help and support. This is so lovely; I remember when her mum was little and attending the same school, dyslexia wasn’t even recognised. It was such an uphill struggle to get any help. My daughter was excited to hear about this book but saddened that it isn’t in audible format and as we know many dyslexic parents of dyslexic children would benefit from that.
Thank you Beth Beamish for a brilliant book

I personally found this book fascinating and can highly recommend. I could make links not only for my daughter but myself also, so have been able to research further into our dyslexia and have a better understanding .So thank you Beth for your insightful book.

Our daughter has recently been diagnosed with dyslexia. It took me a day to read this book so a nice, easy, enjoyable read in Lehman’s terms. I found it really insightful and would recommend everyone to read it as it will give you an understanding in to individuals as a whole and maybe spark some ‘Aha’ moments in you such as recognising some traits within yourself or family members or friends. I think teachers and care givers would benefit hugely from reading this book also. Really enjoyable and great references and links to TED talks and book recommendations too.
