Being aware of nutrition I heard the author on a podcast and ordered the book.
Full of good information if you are starting on the path of nutritional food
I waded through skimming the pages to substituting and found I was already 100% on the right foods
Lots of studies outlined that confirm the why’s, if your into that….. I’m not
Have given to a friend looking to improve nutrition but they have not read yet so can’t give and feedback from a novice

Takes the myth away from foods to eat and importance of maintaining a healthy gut which in turn leads to a way of life without being too obsessed by the issue. Makes you realise how little you need to eat provided you balance out your nutrition, sleep and exercise. Great book

Overall not bad. But significant errors. Mri does not involve radiation. Oysters may be healthy, but i can’t find oyster sauce that is.

A mine of the newest research into how to have a healthy body & mind.
Rid your body of excess fat, not by depriving yourself of food, but by eating a huge variety of healthy, healing Wholefoods from the Far East to Italy!
    A brilliant resource ⭐️

Really like this new book from Dr Li. So interesting reading what all the different foods he suggests can do for our bodies. No excuses now really. This book gives you all the info you need to get healthy and sort out your metabolism.
Just one problem though – the food journal is apparently downloadable from his website address given in the book (pg297) but I can’t seem to download it and you do kind of need it to follow the diet. Hence the star knocked off

    Bottom line:
The book suggests a way of eating that is high fibre, low fat, high veg, low meat, no processed foods. The only added fat that he lists as beneficial is extra virgin olive oil.

None of that is particularly revolutionary, is it? It is far more mainstream than I was expecting.

He is critical of keto (not enough plant variety, too much fat and meat) and Paleo (faulty thinking) , and seems quite approving of vegan – so long as processed foods are avoided (such as all those fake meats and cheeses, and high fat items).

He is clear that chicken and red meats are too high in saturated fats which is bad for the heart (a theory now disproven), and he dismisses the idea that some plant foods can be harmful because of the chemicals (lectins, phytates and oxalates – my body reacts badly to these). He does not mention FODMAPs. Metabolic disease hardly gets a mention. He likes exercise, but it doesn’t need to be strenuous.

The suggested diet plan is basically low fat, high fibre, with lots of fish, a mild form of intermittent fasting, and moderate exercise, moderate portion sizes, stopping eating when comfortable, not stuffed – which just about sums up most of the mainstream trendy diets over the last 50 years. The menu plans look delicious (and a lot of meal prep), and way higher carb than either keto or Paleo. Lots of Asian and Mediterranean veg and salads.

My own experience of 57 years living in my body, and struggling with weight, diets and different food choices has taught me quite a few things about how MY body needs to eat, and I need much lower carb than he suggests. Soy does not work for me. Nor does gluten.

His ‘revolutionary’ ideas on triggering brown fat activity, and burning white fat off can be summed up by the suggestion to use hot pepper sauce (or supplements), and eat from his list of 150 foods (plants, no sweeteners, a few low fat meats and lots of fish).

The debate on brown and white fat, stimulating brown fat, and encouraging a good diverse gut microbiome is very topical, and interesting. Of course, a good gut biome requires a range of different plant fibre, both soluble and insoluble. However, this is not the diet for me, though I may try increasing the fish from twice a week to 3 or 4 times, and adding hot sauce…
