The book is short and straight to the point .
It covers the basics of what a child in care going to forever home in the younger age bracket up to 5 obviously age appropriation to the child ability i.e if child is 9 with you get ability then great ..
It give good direction to expand on the story at hand relating it to the child’s circumstance .
Could have been a bit longer is my only picking point and some pointers from experience in adoption or fostering in note form to begin book for guidance but apart from that those looking at this book will be targeting it for the reasons we bought so yes it’s good for that purpose .

Eddy Finds a Family is a lovely story about Eddy the emu who is looking for a family and Flossy and Frank the flamingos who are hoping for a child and decide to try adoption.
This is a great book to show children that there are all different kinds of families and through the loving characters and heartwarming story it shows perfectly that the most important aspect of a family is love for each other.
The way this book explains adoption is brilliant as it does so in a child friendly way but it also goes through each of the steps and shows how all the characters are feeling during the process.
The children loved the characters of Flossy and Frank and were hoping for a happy ending for Eddy so they really enjoyed the ending. It was nice that we got to know Eddy throughout the story and got to understand his complicated emotions as this helped the children understand a bit more about why children get adopted and how it might feel.
The illustrations work perfectly to show just how each character is feeling. From the sadness and worry Eddy feels to the joy it was lovely to see how Eddy worked his way through the emotions with the support of those around him. The children also liked seeing all of the different animals that were there for Eddy and I think it was useful to have a range of animals as it helped the children see clearly that Eddy was only being looked after by Felicity frog for example and that she wasn’t one of his parents.
We really enjoyed this story and it was a great opportunity to talk about adoption and the different kind of families there are. This is a lovely story that shows both a parent and child’s perspective of adoption that would be perfect for anyone wanting to introduce the topic to young children.

In writing this little jewel of a book, Sarah has explained the adoption process beautifully and included language and illustrations that will keep children thoroughly engaged and allow them to identify with the main characters. It gives young children an understanding of how it feels to ‘suddenly’ belong and is a starting point for discussion, whether adopted or not. A perfect addition to any Early Years and Key Stage One classroom bookshelf, as well as a ‘go to’ book, to read at home.

I bought this super book as a gift for a young friend whose family are soon to welcome an adopted child. It’s beautifully written with lovely illustrations. The characters are warm and engaging and I’m sure that reading the story together will help my friends to describe and process some of the mix of feelings and emotions their family and new arrival are going through. Looking forward to Eddy’s next adventures!

I could not believe how this book made me feel when reading through the story, it brought home to me how children must feel before they are going to be adopted, it outlines some of the reasons why adoption has to happen and this can assist greatly when having to explain to children why things are happening to them. I actually had goose bumps while reading it. I had a friend many years ago who lived in a children’s home, I wish I knew then what I know now, I wish I could have understood how he must have been feeling . An excellent piece of writing accompanied by superb colourful illustration. this book is a huge credit to the Author Sarah McGeough and a must read for anyone. D.C from Norfolk. xx

I am still thinking about this beautiful story and how it has helped me understand the process of creating some of the ingredients to encouraging acceptance.
I wish I had been able to read it several years ago when my best friend was working as a Foster carer and helping the children she cared for prepare for their long term and sometimes adoptive parents. I am sure that this will be a gift to helping.
This should be a book that every primary school adopts and reads to all pupils so that the important messages are shared. Like the wonderful author states “Adoption is a big word and means lots of things”.
Understanding this process through Eddy finds a Family will be so helpful. I am really looking forward to finding out what next for Eddy and his Family …

I bought this book for my 4 year old daughter – she absolutely loved the characters and the colourful illustrations. The story is so beautifully and simply written, it also prompted some interesting questions from her about how and why some parents adopt, and how and why some children are adopted. Adoption is not something that she has come across in her life before, so this book was a lovely way to talk to her about what can be difficult and confusing topics for younger children.
