Rarely has an educational text been more timely and topical than this. In a time where the right knowledge and understanding is so crucial in addressing barriers for our most vulnerable and marginalised children, families and communities, this book presents ambitious, challenging but most importantly hopeful and inspiring messages to everyone involved in education. Coupled with useful practical knowledge, wisdom and actionable strategies to improve our knowledge and practice, this book is a must read! Thank you!

This is the book I have been waiting for!

Most A Level Sociology teachers will be teaching about attainment gaps in Education, and the impact of ethnicity, social class and gender on educational achievement. ‘Equitable Education’ provides both the data and the conceptual framework for teachers to tackle this topic with confidence.

It is time to move away from the cultural deficit and classist narratives which pervade outdated textbooks, and confront the structural issues which underpin the statistics.

For Sociology teachers who want both to inform themselves and challenge their students, this book is a very good place to start!

Only two chapters in but am already impressed by how easy the book is to read, the clarity of key messages and references to relevant research. Can’t wait to read the rest and reflect/challenge my current thinking.

Really useful case studies and reflection points to consider. Chapters focussed on pupil. characteristics can be read in isolation or sequentially with leadership and bringing it all together chapters linking themes.
