What war destroys, only love can heal.

Elisabetta, Marco, and Sandro grew up as the best of friends, whose fractuous friendship soon blossoms, with both Sandro and Marco hoping to win Elisabetta’s heart.

But as Mussolini asserts his power in 1937, aligning his Fascists with Hitler’s Nazis, this begins to change.

As anti-Semitism becomes policy, global war erupts and the Nazis invade Rome, the intertwined fates of the three will be decided, in a heartbreaking coming-of-age love story, exploring the best and the worst that the world has to offer.

Eternal is a tale of loyalty, loss, love and war – set in the Eternal City at its darkest moment. This moving novel will be forever etched in the hearts and minds of readers.

This is an absolutely wonderful story based on the love, friendship and courage that Elisabetta, Marco and sandro have for each other during the rise of Fascism and the Second World War. The power of emotions that this incredible story creates leaves you, at times, feeling emotionally drained as you face what these childhood friends have to deal with as fascism and the war take hold of their lives.

The relationships that Lisa has created within Eternal and how they all relate to each other is outstanding and you will feel as though you are with them and know each of them personally. You get to know the trio plus their families, friends and comrades as well as the completely different backgrounds they all come from.

The book is incredibly thought provoking in many ways and has you questioning a lot of what took place during this era in Rome, as well as elsewhere in Europe and it does leave you feeling incredibly moved at the depths of darkness that took over this wonderful, romantic city.

There are ties when you will be upset and angry though also joyous as you read the story that that evolves over decades showing all sides of humanity and , fortunately, love prevails.

For me this quote from the book is really powerful in summing up the effects of what the three friends went through and endured and what we all need to remember.

“War was eternal, but so was peace.

Death was eternal, but so was life.

Darkness was eternal, but so was light.

Hate was eternal, but above all, so was love “

For me this was an incredibly moving 5 ???????????????????? read and I will be looking out for more books by Lisa in the very near future.

This was a brilliant war story that took place in Italy. At first I did find it hard going as every chapter is about a different person, once the book gets going then the story unfolds. I would recommend this book.

I knew about some if the events in this book from other novels but it was still a very harrowing read. Highly recommended to those who want to find out more about what happened to the Italian Jews under fascism and then nazism. I loved the characters and how their love for each other prevailed

I enjoyed this book. I had no idea about the ghetto in Rome and what happened there during world war 11. A book which makes you think about Mussolini and what he did to appease Hitler! A good read!
