I’ve tried to understand IEC61508 from the standards. I’ve looked everywhere on the internet. I bought David J Smith’s book. I still didn’t understand it. This stuff isn’t easy if you’re coming at it for the first time.
What Kirkcaldy does is give a lot, hundreds, of worked examples. This makes things much clearer. I can now determine SIL ratings! What’s more I suspect you’ll find an example that will meet just about any eventuality.
If you’re working with IEC61508, especially if you’re new to it, buy this book.
It’s cheap. There’s no loss in trying it and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Note that it’s only 87 A5 pages; consider it small and perfectly formed. That’s enough.
