When Herbie and Violet’s arch-enemy Sebastian Eels turns up in Eerie-on-Sea, seemingly back from the dead, it can only spell bad news. The town may welcome his entrepreneurial scheme to resurrect Festergrimm’s Waxworks, a dusty and defunct old gallery of spooky characters from Eerie legend, but Herbie and Violet are suspicious of his motives. And when they learn the legend of Ludo Festergrimm the clockmaker, creator of a vast mechanical robot that wrought havoc in the wrong hands, they KNOW they’re on the right track. But how can they get the residents of Eerie-on-Sea to believe them?

Another great instalment in the Eerie-on-Sea adventures for Herbie, Vi and Clermit the clockwork crab.
There’s the return of an old villain, a spooky old waxworks with a hidden past and plenty of thrilling action for the intrepid youths. I love this series and can’t wait for book 5, Mermedusa, coming soon.

Giant robots. Clockwork hermit crabs. Fudge. Underground mazes. A recipe for a thoroughly enjoyable book!

Since first reading the Malamander a long time ago I’ve eagerly awaited each sequel, and once again this did not disappoint!

All the usual (and desired) fun, mystery, and great humour that comes with professional Lost and Foundering!

Can’t wait for the next adventure.

Festergrimm is book four in the Eerie-on-Sea series from author Thomas Taylor. The books are great fun for middle-grade readers.

If you haven’t read the first three then you are in for a real treat and they are jolly good fun and surrounded in mystery.

In Festergrimm an old and nasty face from the past is back putting young Herbert and Violet on edge. The person reckons they have changed but the young sleuths are not so sure, neither are some of the locals.

The book is filled with adventure, action, and lots of amusing moments. The book really needs to be reads after the others in the series to keep up with everything that has happened so far, but they are all amazing reads you’ll have no trouble doing so.

Enjoyable from beginning to end. Read the series you won’t be disappointed.

*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed.

Smashing. Herbie remains one of the best first person narrators around, and the increasing layers of Eerie lore make this another brilliant read. The deepest mysteries are coming closer and closer to the surface, but the dangers are also ratcheting up.

The setting this time is a creepy waxworks, but the sheer scale and increases in this instalment helps to really drive the overall story forwards even faster- really getting worried for the characters now!

A mysterious VIP is coming to the Grand Nautilus hotel and everyone is supposed to keep him happy, but Herbie and Violet are not happy at all when they see who it is.
It’s great finding all the connections with previous books and there are always new secrets to discover about Eerie-on-Sea. I love that the most important thing is always cake… or fudge… or lemon cream delights. I found the adults were a bit too dumb sometimes though. It’s amazing what gets past them and how much they ignore the kids’ warnings! I wasn’t expecting the cliffhanger but I am very excited for Mermedusa!
