A perfect piece of ffxiv memorabilia. I couldn’t find the minion code at first! However it was tucked in between the pages as a small leaflet. It was easy to miss at first.

This is the 7th artbook for FFXIV I have collected, and once more I give profound thanks to being able to buy this through Amazon with free delivery, as opposed to the ‘bad-old’ days of paying Square Enix £6 for delivery.
In case this is your first artbook rodeo, FFXIV releases two art books per expansion, for example Heavansward has ‘Stone and Steel’ as book 1, covering the base game, key locations, character models, new classes and items and then ‘The Scars of War’ as book 2, this covers the various patches, the raids, Alexander and so forth. The base game has just a single (excellent) art book ‘The Art of Eorzea’.
As the second artbook for Shadowbringers, ‘Histories Unwritten’ is filled with 300 pages of beautiful artwork covering the Eden Verse/Promise raids as well as the Sorrow Of Werlyt raids. Save The Queen and Yorha wide scale raids are also covered along with the additional equipment, dungeons and minions introduced over the Shadowbringers patches.
I actually think Histories Unwritten is a superior artbook to the first Shadowbringers artbook (Histories Forsaken). It seems to have more art in general then the first book, even if it includes no art of the Scion characters (although our favourite cat boy makes an appearance).
The Yorha pages in particular are a treat for any Nier fans, but the raid material and Save The Queen material is really interesting, showing off the spectacular levels and boss designs that were a highlight of Shadowbringers itself. I also really liked the pages on the various Weapon designs, including a double page of ‘G-Warrior’ pictures, its amazing to look back on the previous artbooks and see how things have changed. Also shout out for the beautiful dustjacket which makes it quite the coffee table centrepiece. The art book ends with ancillary art a double page of ‘messages from the art team’ and includes the (very cute) Runar minion code.
Is this worth getting? Absolutely – in my previous review I mentioned the worrying trend towards ‘less’ art being in these books but this one helps turn the tide. I do wish there were more notes from the artists and dev team into the design process (as there are in the base FFXIV book) but that hardly detracts from what is otherwise a wonderful collectors item.
Bring on Endwalker, I can’t wait to see what the art team get up!
PS – For those of you that want it – yes this includes the ‘legendary’ Estinien push-up art (swoon) along with the other Covid ‘stay home and play’ specials. They threw open the gates for us thirsty fans (get it?), and those of us that can’t quite believe the Azure Dragoon has a nicer home then most of us ever will.

As a massive fan of the game and the world this is a must have !! There is artwork for characters, zones, dungeons, armour sets, weapons and much more.
There are separate books for each expansion and all are equally high quality printing and presentation and make a perfect collection for any fan.
