The content of the ‘First Phonics’ Collins book are in line with the early years foundation curriculum. It includes activities like ‘drawing a line from an alphabet to each colourful picture that begins with that sound’, colouring pictures’.
At the end of the book a certificate of achievement is attached to hand to the child.
I highly recommend for the 3-4 age group.
Parents and carers would also find the tips on each page useful. The book is also inexpensive, well packaged and delivered on time.

My Granddaughter is a preschooler and has been off Nursery for some time due to the lock down.
I bought 3 different versions of these books, maths, English and phonetics.
Monday to Friday we’re doing 3 pages per book and I would say that that was adequate for a 5 year old.
On her first page of learning O’s K’s and G’s. I’d say her memory for remembering is great.
I look forward to going through all 3 books with her. Absolutely recommend these books as they are very easy for the Parent/Grandparent to follow and guide the child.

Great variety of activities

Disappointing. The book uses images without the written word to support it which would be nice to support reading.
Secondly, the activities are inconsistent and easily confusing for a 3yr old. One letter you might circle/draw a line to the images that do start with the letter. Then next you do it to the ones that don’t. Switching back and forth is an additional effort to explain and adjust. I only work across two pages at a time and wonder if this is adding unnecessary confusion for a toddler than it needs to be.

I am not very familiar with phonics as it isn’t something I did when i was in school. This book was straightforward and good images over the phonics. The price is just right also, can’t go wrong.

A nice, bright book with lots of colourful pictures. I haven’t used it with my child yet, but we had a look through it and she was excited to try. The book is much smaller then I expected, with only 20 pages of work. Other workbooks I have purchased for the same price point have been bigger. I’m not sure this represents good value for money.

Not really sure whether to fault the book or not. However, it only took a couple of days to go through the entire workbook. Would have been nice to have a few more pages to last a bit longer! would have been happy to pay a bit more for more pages. I guess one could say maybe time to move up to the next age – however i still feels a few more practice pages needed prior to jumping up to next age group. Daughter enjoyed doing the work so all good from that point of view.
