I have been deliberating with buying this book for some time, and finally took the plunge. Great book, i speak (almost) fluent chinese so this is a good book to share with my daugher who i am also encouraging to learn. The book is written in sections which allows learning through topics; home, school, hobbies, sea side, colours, numbers etc. Each page has characters and pinyin, no english but the pictures are very clear. If you only speak a little chinese the usborne online tools provide a listening program. I have a feeling this will become a very usefull book. Downsides; the index is written in chinese to english and not in sections so if your looking for a particular word you may find it difficult. Nonetheless, a great book especially for use with multi-lingual children.

Great book, I have the English version also. I just wish the chinese so characters were all written the traditional way and not simplified

It used mainland China Mandarn rather than Taiwanese so that’s something to bear in mind when buying this book.

Good value. The print is a bit light an not big enough really – I cannot imagine it is easy for kids to read it either. But apart from that Ilove it as well as the weblink for pronunciation.

Ideal to help you learn pinyin and charaters of every day objects and people things. Requires lots of repartition reading

This book is great for children (and adults) wanting to learn the basics of Mandarin Chinese. The fun cartoon pictures make it interesting and fun for children and the fact it has characters as well as pin-yin makes it easy to learn from. As an adult with an already basic level of Chinese it’s been a great way for me to flick through and learn new vocab.

I bought this for my 18 month old daughter. She’s now just over 2 and understands so many more words in Chinese than I do.
The illustrations are really nice, and well grouped. The binding is standing up well to the various bits of mis-use she gives it!. This is one of my daughters favourite books and she insists we sit together and go through a few pages each night when I return home from work. A great way to introduce your child to alternative languages.
