It took awhile to get into and Claudia was not a character I warmed to but as the story unfolded it got better and better. The power of forgiveness, so all encompassing was brilliantly evoked.

I have just finished this book and i’m actually missing the world i have been in.
I normally go for psyc thrillers or funny relatable stories. I have never sat and cried and connected with the characters like i did reading this. Mercy had the final word, and it wrapped up beautifully.
I will getting myself more from this author .

Susan Lewis at her scintillating best. What a joy to revisit well loved characters like Andee in their familiar setting. The new characters, Claudia, Marcie and Jasmine are escaping from “Claudia’s” abusive husband who is at present in jail on money laundering charges. They seize their opportunity to escape, changing their names and buying a wonderful new home together, which they lovingly restore to it’s former glory. They are quickly assimilated into the friendly community but it doesn’t take Andee long to join the dots and discover their true identities. I don’t want to spoil the story by revealing plot lines but it is a story of redemption and hope that left me longing for a sequel. I felt quite bereft when I reached the last page and had to say goodbye again to characters so well drawn that it felt like leaving friends. A sequel please Susan!

This is a well written novel full of well drawn characters, so why have I only given it 4 stars? It took me a long time to come to terms with the passages, which interrupt the storyline, written by the character seeking forgiveness until it became clearer who he was and which crime he had committed. The 3 main characters are mother, grandmother and daughter, Claudia, Marcy and Jasmine, and they move to Kelsterley under new names, to escape Claudia’s abusive husband. They are beginning to control their fear and start a new life with new friends, when disaster strikes the family. This is the crime for which forgiveness is needed. I found the process known as ‘restorative justice’ very interesting. The novel is intricate in that it is a thriller and a love story, well worth reading.
