Did not teach me enough, at the stage I am in my photography. my fault rather than the book…well written for complete beginners who are not so interested in black and white photography.

This is a really great book if you want to start taking great portrait photographs or if you want to develop your existing skills.
It’s packed full of great photos with plenty of commentary on why the pictures ‘work’ and how that was achieved. The layout is really great, with a section on basics (camera/lenses), one on light and location then most of the book is dedicated to teaching portrait techniques and ideas to develop them. Even this is carefully broken down into age groups and situations, so the advice can be tailored to your requirements.
All in all this is a great value book. There is so much is crammed in, while still being accessible and easy to read/digest.
I strongly recommend this if you want to start or get better at taking pictures of people!

As a novice who wants to improve the portrait photos that I love to take, this has been a very useful foundation guide to revisit the basics of portrait photography again. One of the main issues I tend to have is lighting and exposure which this book covers effectively, allowing me to improve the shots that I take.

This book just does not work on kindle. I am sure that the book is well written and from what I have seen is full of good information. But save yourself some money and don’t buy this book as a kindle e book the text is to small sure you can make it larger but then half of the page can’t be seen. Personally I feel that I have wasted my money with this purchase and really wish that I had brought it in paper back. I will be deleting this book from my library as it is so poor as an e book.

Absolutely LOVE this book! I was bought a DSLR camera last year for my birthday and have recently had a baby boy (which Hannah did an amazing photoshoot of!). So, I wanted to learn more about my new camera without having to read the boring plain old manual. I was excited to hear that Hannah was bringing out a book with Sarah 🙂 It has a mix of the technical aspects of photography and also goes into the fun aspects of capturing beautiful photographs. Since I have started reading up on all the different technicalities I have been putting them into practice and have seen an improvement in my photos. Thank you ladies!
This book is a MUST HAVE for anybody that is interested in photography especially if you have a family as it goes through the different stages of life (babies, toddlers, teens then adults).
It is quite clear that the authors of this book have worked very hard together to write the complicated technical aspects of photography in a fun and inspiring way so that you enjoy the book and cannot put it down.
I really hope that this is just the start of a series of photography books by Hannah and Sarah as I am thoroughly enjoying the book.
