When falling in love is the punchline . . .
Farley Jones is a loud, chaotic, and hilariously clever standup comedian on the way to stardom. The only thing she loves more than the rush of telling jokes in front of a revved-up audience is her hot older manager Meyer, though he doesn’t have a clue. Keeping her feelings hidden from him is agony, but Meyer has been Farley’s closest and most treasured friend, not to mention vital to the trajectory of her career. She can’t risk ruining their relationship by telling him how she truly feels. After all, who else would have the patience to put up with a hot mess like her?
A former standup star himself, single father Meyer Harrigan left the stage years ago in order to focus on raising his deaf daughter Hazel. Farley has been everything to them since she came into their lives three years ago, and despite his grumpiness, his protectiveness over Hazel, and his disdain for public attention, Meyer will do anything to make her standup dreams come true.
When the biggest opportunity of Farley’s career comes along and forces the pair to fake-date in order to stir up publicity, it doesn’t take long for their act to bring all those other funny feelings out into the open. Like most matters of the heart, it quickly begins to feel like anything but a joke.

So this book does not make me want a stand up comedy career, but it does make me want to force it onto all of my clever funny friends who worry that they can be too much.
It’s written with a lovely relatable style that makes you feel as though you’re sitting in the greenroom watching the story take place.

I loved this book so much it gave me everything I love, it gave fake dating, it gave friends to lovers, it gave single dad, it gave everything!!!!
I love Farley and Meyer so much, they’re both so strong and care about each other so purely and deeply, I was crying at every interaction they had because it was all just so lovely ????
I love how real and herself Farley could be with Meyer and he always made her feel safe and protected, and she did the same for him!
I love Hazel too and seeing her relationship with both of them, Farley helping her feel confident and brave made me CRY my heart hurt so much and Meyer is such a good dad to her and now none of them are lonely because they all have each other ????
There were so many cute scenes throughout the whole book and I just loved how simple it all was, neither of them had to make huge grand gestures to show their love because they constantly showed it through their small actions – the New Years scene lives in my head rent free I loved it so much

A very simple story of love. Predictable, yes.
I felt that the characters weren’t the most developed and there could have been more of a plot.
It was however written well and it was enjoyable to read a story that didn’t ask too much of me because it was so simple.

Okay this was the worlds cutest friends to lovers story ever. I loved it so much!!!
Farley is the brightest person ever. She is the sunshine on a rainy day. She will put ANYONE before herself because that is how much she cares. She loves hard!
Meyer was a ten out of ten. Green flags flying everywhere. He is an amazing dad to Hazel and amazing friend to Farley.
They were DESTINED for each other. One of my favourite book couples omg.
I loved the representation of hearing impairment and use of ASL. It was used beautifully and with such care.
The comedians quotes at the beginning of the chapters were my favourite things. I’m a big stand up comedy fan so that was a brilliant addition for me!
I love that they constantly ask eachother if something is okay with the other before doing it. It doesn’t take a lot to get consent, and it’s amazing to see!
I highly recommend this book, and I’m excited to read more of Tarah’s books!

I know mental health isn’t the key point to the story but I feel it’s important to mention as it’s certainly a character point for both leads.
It’s funny and real and a great way to see two people who thought it was never going to happen between them finally get there.

The dynamic and chemistry between Farley and Meyer is engaging, the story provides both characters perspectives, it’s full of humour and warmth, and the time line flows easily between past and present. Unfortunately the latter half of the story loses its way, and all that lovely momentum starts to fade. I found some repetition of dialogue unnecessary and lazy, it changed the flow of the story when the characters began sharing their thoughts and feelings with each other which just echoed the earlier narrative pretty much verbatim. I slowly became indifferent to the outcome rather than invested. Epilogue was lacklustre. A real shame.

This is probably one of my favourite friends to lovers romance I have ever read. It was also 100% needed after reading a heavy dark romance.
The communication between these two characters was so sexy in its self, I honestly think this is the most functional relationship I’ve ever read about.
The story follows Meyer and Farley.
Meyer is a single dad, who manages Farley, who is an up and coming comedian.
I adored Meyer, he is so emotionally mature, level headed and the fact that he goes to therapy regularly as well as encouraging others to go as well is so sexy! And Farley, I adored her as well, she was so fearless and chaotic in the most charming way.
This book had me cackling in moments and swooning in others. I adored watching their relationship progress from just friends to more. But I also adored how they continued to be best friends. Meyer’s little girl Hazel was adorable, I loved the asl representation in this book, and I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved those moments of the three of them together.
This story had the best slow burn, and when it got to it the sprinkling of spice was hot! This was such a funny, cute and cosy read, perfect for autumn.

“Because isn’t that the dream? To have a heart that’s less burdened simply because of who you share it with?”
You sitting? Get up and run run run to order Funny Feelings because it’s absolutely amazing!
Reading Funny Feelings was absolute bliss! I must say, stan-up is not my jam, but after reading the blurb, it seemed so interesting, I couldn’t resist. And I am so happy I did pick it up because it was a light and funny, but also a very insightful and emotional read. Tarah Dewitt is not afraid to peel her characters’ every layer to unravel their insecurities, their fears, but also their big hearts! And along with that, the author created a beautiful and strong love story that grips you from the start and won’t let go until you turn the last page!
Not to spoil anything, I totally recommend for everyone who’s a fan of:
– grumpy/sunshine
– fake dating
– forced proximity
– age-gap romance
– single dad
– silver fox
– stand-up comedy
– adult vs. child bond
– career vs. love
