Fantastic book, the author conveys the tension of this short period in world history and its implications for humanity, particularly enjoyed reading about the men who helped JFK save the planet from nuclear conflict, notably George Ball and Adlai Stevenson. A thoroughly enjoyable and insightful read, full marks to Martin Sherwin, a stellar achievement
by Dr Barry Clayton
Even if you know a great deeal about the Cuban Misdile crisis uou wll enjoy this gripping account by Sherwin
In particular his analysis of the role and actions of the four Soviet Foxtrot boats in the Sargasso Sea is fascinating and alarming . Luck did not enable the crisis to be resolved without a nuclear exchange .
There is still much to be revealed about the incident but this splendid book has stripped away another layer. By revealing the whole of the soviet leader’s emotive message to Kennedy -the one that used the analogy of a rope and a knot-Sherwin demonstrates the importance of meticulous research.
