Legend has it that the bottle contains an extraordinary secret that spells doom for the whole of Eerie-on-Sea. Could it be true that the vast sea creature Gargantis has awoken from her slumbers, and is causing the large cracks that are appearing all across the town? My Y6 readers have found his book to be a thing of great turmoil. So popular is it, they have taken to angrily arguing who gets to reread it once it has been passed around the room. Malamander, the original, has the same effect.
For a young reader, the cobbled streets and creaky piers of Eerie-On-Sea are mystifying and enthralling. The students described how much they wanted to see vast beasts in the sky, and how perhaps there are mysteries abound that we husg haven’t found yet.
As a grown up reader, I’ve found a world so intricately and sensitively crafted that it is impossible to resist.

Excellent sequel to the brilliant Malamander. In this book we continue to follow Herbie and Violet through more mysterious goings on in Eerie on Sea. This time, the town is being battered by violent storms and there are rumours that the legendary Gargantis may have awoken!
I love the creepy, sinister atmosphere created by Taylor’s writing. Reading about the storms and the raging sea, almost felt like I was there. And although I’m happy to avoid the cold weather, the places described in this series are so creative and magical, I really would love to visit Eerie on Sea. I’d love to have a book dispensed from the Book Dispensary or get to eat chips in Seagols Diner.
Having read Malamander to my class last term, I can’t wait to share the sequel with them soon. As well as enjoying being scared, I know they’ll love trying to solve the mystery of the Gargantis and the Eerie script (I guessed what it said, but not how to read it!)
The ending was brilliant as well. Solving some mysteries and leaving us with others. I’m really looking forward to discovering the answers to these in book 3.

What a joy to read. For the kids as well as me. Not often I read something as well constructed as This series.

Exciting story plot, great characterisation and endearing characters, with magical creatures and a scary sea monster – highly entertaining and recommended!

Bloody brilliant. It was so wonderful to be back in Eerie on Sea. With the promise of a massive monster, a terrible storm and a strange item in the lost and found, I knew I’d enjoy this. Herbie and violet are back bring their brilliant selves. There’s some wonderful additions to the characters in this book including a terrifying baddie and some wonderful helpful sidekicks. I really enjoyed this! Fun, adventurous and full of wit!

I was lucky to get a Netgalley Arc of Thomas Taylor’s latest book Gargantis and I was tickled pink but first I have a couple of confessions to tell you. I had Malamander sitting on my shelf to be read until I read it May this year and omg why had I not picked it up sooner it was one incredible ride and my second confession is I had Gargantis already on preorder and could not wait to read it but when I got it I didn’t want to read quickly as I didn’t want the adventure to end. If you are looking for spoilers I am afraid you will not find them here but I would say is you must start with the first book and you will not be disappointed. In these books which are set in eerie on sea we have two main characters Herbie Lemon and Violet Parmar and their characters are strong and well written as are the characters like Mrs Fossil and Dr Thalassi but there is another character that does not speak but is totally alive and in Gargantis we see alot more of it is Eerie on Sea. I’m dying to see what happens next and hoping that there will be another book very soon. So for these reasons my rating has to be 5 stars

Another outstanding tale from Thomas Taylor. This man has a magical pen! I only wish I had his wonderful way with words, so that this review would do his latest tale from Eerie-on-Sea the justice it deserves. His previous tale, Malamander, kept me hooked from start to finish and I was a little concerned that this second book might not live up to the first. Well. I need not have worried! Once I had started to read it, the only problem I had was in trying to tear myself away from Herbie & Violet and actually put the book down! I thoroughly recommend this (& Malamander) to readers from 9 to 90 (No, I’m only 65).
The story itself is fast paced but easily followed, though full of twists and turns. I absolutely loved the little extras (which I couldn’t possibly give away, but which really made me chuckle).
Thank you Mr Taylor. Another one as soon as possible please?!

Lost-and-Founder Herbert Lemon and his friend Violet are back in another adventure set within the seaside town of Eerie-on-Sea. This time a massive storm is shaking the town violently and there seems to be no end to it. If it continues it could cause the whole town to crumble into the sea.
The fishermen have a tale of a creature, Gargantis, awakening and that is the cause of the storm, but could their tale be true and what’s with the fish-shaped bottle that has washed up on the shore during an electrical storm that everyone in the town is trying to lay claims to?
Herbie and Violet are on a quest to discover the truth and save their adopted home before it is too late.
Gargantis is the second book in the Eerie-on-Sea series for middle-graders, although it is that exciting that I can see plenty of YA readers enjoying it too. The first book, Malamander, introduced us to this unlikely pair, both found by locals when they were babies and given homes within the town. Herbie is still working at the local hotel, Grand Nautilus, as the Lost-and-Founder, whilst Violet is working at the bookshop.
The book is continuous action the whole way through and the plot explosive has you hanging on every page and not wanting to put the book down. There is even a mysterious hooded man who hides his face and wants what Herbie has and resembles an Octopus when he’s in the water.
I love the characters and being back in the town, which is certainly a one-off. I was intrigued the whole way through to see if Gargantis was real and was it coming for Eerie. I can see this series being a big hit and I’m not surprised. Both books have been amazing and I hope that there will be more visits to Eerie-on-Sea in the future. I’m sure more adventures are waiting to be had!
