Useful for those looking at taking computer science at GCSE level over the next few years. This is for Grade 9-1, and is for exams in 2022 and beyond. Covers components of a computer system, data representation, networks, issues, algorithms, programming, design testing &IDE’s, and mixed tests for papers 1 and 2. There are 30 tests in total and answers are included. I’ve used these before for other subjects and I usually set a timer and see how far they get in the ten minutes. If you do it in pencil or write on a separate sheet they can be used over and over again for practice. The tests are a mixture of multiple choice and writing questions with differing marks available. Some of it’s easy, some harder. There are no revision notes in here, this is purely tests. Great product, great price.

To me this exam papers collection makes no sense at all. But it gives an excellent insight into what stuff is taught at schools, if for whatever reason you need that insight. Or, hopefully, it will help you prepare your child for their exam. In some questions however I think it is an excellent guide to set you off on an independent research – select a question, google it all up trying to figure out what this is all about, and… spend hours reading.
But all in all, it covers quite a wide range of data/information and shows students are supposed to understand and know a lot of terminology. I think it is an excellent guide for a competitive home educating parent whose child is into computing (who will accept the challenge and make sure their child knows all of this and more).

The first thing to establish is which exam board your school operates under. I wasn’t sure at the time of ordering as my son has just started his GCSE’s but I decided it would probably be full of useful info. The book explains the format of questions and provides some very useful tips on how to approach exam questions. It also gives details on terminology you are likely to come across in an exam and how to use it to your advantage. I’m sure a lot of this is covered in school but as a parent it was good to see this information. The book has 91 A4 pages of exam questions with the answers in the back of the book. Initially I think we will use the questions and answers together as a learning tool. Then nearer the time of exams use the book as a test resource. Overall books like this are going to help, if you can get children engaged with them.

I found this handy book good value for money. It contains 30 bite-size tests which worked out to be less than 20 pence per test. Each test starts with 6 multi-choice questions and are followed by 3 to 4 questions which are more challenging and required written answers.

My son did the tests and found the questions relevant. The tests are grouped by subject areas. He used the progress chart in the back of the book to keep track of his test results. This chart helped him to identify subject areas which required further study. He did 1 or 2 tests each day depending on how confidence he felt about a particular subject area.

The model answers for section 2 of each tests were particular useful because they gave my son a good idea of how much he needed to write and provide to score the points allocated to each question.

These bite-size tests helped my son slowly built up his confidence and prepared him for the actual exam which could take up to 1 and a half hour to complete.

I would recommend these tests to all aspiring computer scientists.

The media could not be loaded.

Practical little test book for gcse computer science. Well printed on decent paper/card and stapled in. Questions are appropriate and get progressively harder/complex. Great for anyone taking the exam. Answers in the back are easy to read. Would be good if the answer sheets had been perforated so that you could easily remove them from the book but that’s just a thought and doesn’t detract from the book. It has a handy progress chart at the back so you can keep a log of how well you are doing.
    Well worth the money

The most up to date book for the GCSE computer science with the OCR exam board, has 25 short tests aimed for revision and practice over various relevant topics, as well as a further 5 mixed tests.

Unlike the exam workbooks CGP offer, this is a concise range of short-burst tests -10 minutes each – a great way to recap on the fundamentals of the topics and the type of questions that will be asked during the exam.

There’s space to write answers, as well as question mark weighting (always useful to see the amount of marks awarded for each question).
There are 7 main topics included, all of which contain sub-sections of relevant 10-min tests.
The answers are at the back, along with a progress chart to record scores.

These books are a great way to revise your knowledge and prepare for the exam and I thoroughly recommend this as a go-to for all students taking this exam.
