Stocking up on GCSE books for planned revision and learning, this History topic guide was perfect. Covering Early Elizabethan England, this 57 page workbook is full of topics relating to this era, such as The Challenges of a Female Monarch, Mary Queen of Scots, Catholic Plots at Home and The Spanish Armada. Each section is filled with information and questions to help remember what you have learnt. There are also exam style questions and useful tips on how to prepare for the exam. I would have preferred there to be a bit more information under each section, but on the whole it was a very useful book as GCSE time looms. Hopefully this book will prove a very useful revision and learning tool even through the later KS3 years!

???? ‘This book will help you with Edexcel’s PAPER 2/BOOKLET B: BRITISH DEPTH STUDY’
This Edexcel TOPIC GUIDE is presented in the usual CGP way, seemingly busy but cleverly designed to draw the eye.
Illustrations, maps & timelines are included to break up the text.
EXAM TIPs are also included, along with snippets of information, page cross references & handy reminders, e.g.
???? ‘Turn back to page 22-24 if you need a reminder about Francis Walsingham’, on page 31.
or
???? ‘The prompts in the question are only there as a guide. To get a high mark, you’ll also need to include ideas of your own that go beyond the prompts.’, in the worked-style question on page 36.
The current ‘LOOK INSIDE’ facility & stock images above give a fair insight into the layout of this book to see if it is the style for you. That usual touch of CGP humour you either love or hate is evident from the start, i.e.
From the title page, along with the SINGLE USE, ONLINE EDITION, 16-digit ACCESS CODE (1st image below refers):
???? ‘GCSE History is always topical with CGP…
Edexcel’s “Early Elizabethan England, 1558-1588” topic for GCSE History can seem harder than the Spanish Armada – but with this CGP Topic Guide, you’ll sail through it!
It’s packed with crystal-clear notes, plenty of helpful activities. Sample answers, exam tips, exam-style questions and more.
Other History books are just pretenders to the throne.

Elizabeth I was monarch for nearly 50 years and her reign was one of the most significant of any Regent. Therefore, it is not surprising that it is one of the most featured periods of History studied at all levels of academia. This GCSE guide from CGP Books wisely breaks down her reign into three main areas.
Queen, Government and Religion focuses on the issues she faced as a female monarch and the challenges she inherited from her father Henry VIII following the break from Rome and the subsequent religious divisions. Challenges at Home and Abroad looks at the Revolt of the Northern Earls who as committed Catholics wanted Mary, Queen of Scots as monarch, and The War with Spain which led to The Spanish Armada. Elizabethan Society in the Age of Exploration hones in on the growth of theatre as well as the discoveries of Raleigh and Drake.
Each section is broken down into manageable chunks and the use of exercises and essays allow the student to test how much they know. They can then check the detailed answers at the back to see how they have done. A valuable study guide for a fascinating period of British History.
