The revision guide measures around 29.5 cm x 21 cm, with quality shiny paperback covers, opening to 116 colourful, matte finish pages, split over 2 COMPONENTS:
1. THE STUDY OF RELIGIONS: BELIEFS, TEACHINGS AND PRACTICES
2. THEMATIC STUDIES
…both of which are sub-divided, as also currently shown in the LOOK INSIDE above, which also shows the SACRED TEXT REFERENCES.
A one-page ‘REVISION SUMMARY’ ends each subsection which usefully refers back to the relevant pages if you find you need to revise a topic.
‘REVISION TASKS’ & ‘EXAM TIPS’ appear at the foot of some pages, along with EXAM-STYLE QUESTIONS easily spotted by a green circle with ‘EXAM QUESTION’ (+ the potential maximum marks), preceded by a helpful sentence or two, usually with a (humorous) hint that might just stick in the memory bank.
Helpful tips and definitions are littered throughout the book.
Pages 110-113 has notes on ‘DO WELL IN YOUR EXAM & SPaG’, followed by a 3-page combined ‘GLOSSARY & INDEX’ that winds up the book.
Page 110 also notes that it is 2 exams for the FULL COURSE (just ONE for the SHORT COURSE) at the time of writing.

Perfect for revision, covers all topics nicely in an organised way, and generally does the trick fabulously. CGP books are always the way to go as long as they fit your exam board – I’m currently using these for mocks and couldn’t ask for anything better.

Apart from the occasional lack of clarity between beliefs and objective fact – always difficult in Religious Studies, this is a very literate and wide-ranging revision guide. There are a few disappointments in the context of comparative religions; for instance, we are told that Christadelphians do not believe in the Holy Trinity. I can understand that space limitations exclude the ability to discuss John Thomas and the subsequent schisms and reunification, but I would have thought that their belief in the absolute truth in the biblical text would have been compared with Islam’s belief in the absolute truth of the Q’ran. Intellectually, far too much of the guide is rooted in Christian beliefs, with less depth being given to Islam. However, this is not the fault of the guide, it is merely a reflection of the syllabus. There is enough here for the curious to get an idea of what further reading and analysis would be interesting, which is a definite plus. It is also a good primer for those who aren’t entered into exams but simply wish to learn a little more. Highly recommended.

Religious Studies is a very broad subject and it is important to match the revision guide to the course being studied. In this case it is not quite the right one for my Granddaughter. That said she has found it useful with the focus on Christianity and Islam.
CGP have created a comprehensive resource that is proving a valuable asset in revising for her exams and is helping with her essay writing. This guide has a lot of exam style questions and great study notes for key areas such as beliefs, practices, philosophy and ethics. The layout of the book is simple yet contains detailed explanations.

Got his AQA revision guide to help my son with his studies. He has just started Year 10, so not yet ready to take his exams, but as he is not overly academic, I wanted to give him a helping hand, so he is looking through these books, when I can get him to, and increasing his knowledge and understanding.
These guides are clear and easy to understand. Recommended.
