This book is is an absolutely necessary purchase for any student or teacher involved in the new Edexcel GCSE RE course. Since the changes in Specifications were announced back in 2014 Re professionals have been concerned that they might not find a robust, textual based book which will prepare them to teach and their pupils to learn. Thankfully this book will do just that!, The layout is well structured, with a variety of resources which Waqar Ahmedi makes use of in his own clear stimulating way. As with the other books in the series there is an excellent balance of ancient text and modern religious authorities.
The author brings a sense of dignity and respect for the various ethical and moral standpoints which are covered. Mr Ahmedi’s own classroom practice clearly shows through in that his materials are clearly presented, with a variety of resources which he makes use of in a stimulating way. As with the other books in the series there is an excellent balance of ancient text and modern religious authorities.
Teachers – whether proficient in the delivery of RE lessons about Islam or just starting out alike – will need to make use of this valuable addition to their bookshelf. Even if you are not providing this course – or using this particular board you will still benefit from purchasing this. The information which you can access will be of great benefit.
Pupils will appreciate the thoughtfully chosen materials. Illustrations, links to websites, discussion starters, exam exemplars which all help to focus the teacher, the class, the individual pupil on the task at hand.
I think that the only thing that would improve this would be the addition of a few more exemplar exam questions – however, this is a new course, first exams in 2018 and there are other sample materials available from the Exam Board. Therefore I am pleased to give the book a 5* review. Do also look at the other books Mr Ahmedi has written.

This is a great textbook for pupils and staff. Each section is well presented with key terms and relevant scriptural quotes highlighted. Pupils have responded well especially to the variety of case studies present from both Sunni and Shia perspectives.
The support and stretch additions in each section also aid differentiation and allows pupils to develop at their own pace.
Definitely recommend.

An excellent classroom resource! A class set is a must have for anyone teaching GCSE Edexcel Islam. I particularly like the focus on exam skills and emphasis on sources of wisdom and authority.

As an RE teacher tasked with planning and resourcing the new GCSE RS Specification this textbook has been invaluable for me when planning both of the Islam Beliefs & Teachings and Practices units.
Although I’m not teaching Edexcel I have used this resource with students. They find the layout and information easy to understand as other textbooks on the market are word heavy.
I like how divergent views are portrayed and have found the information to be easily digestible by the way in which the information is presented as key questions.
A great resource which you won’t regret buying- I know I don’t!

Another fantastic text book by Mr Ahmedi, with clear and in depth knowledge, helpful even to seasoned professionals and really useful as a resource in the classroom. I can’t fault it. Sticks to the specification for Edexcel but would work equally well for AQA. Makes teaching the new spec straightforward.

By far the best book out there to teach the Edexcel specification. It is clear and concise and very accessible to the students. I tried another book by Victor Watton first and I was tearing hairs. It was not in any way child friendly and even I as a teacher found the lay out and content very inaccessible. The thought of having to use it for the next two years nearly had me crying! I then discovered these gems by Waqar Ahmedi and I was so impressed. The tasks at the end of each topic are perfect and the pupils love all the discussion questions and often feedback to me that RS makes them think so much- this is partly due to the way these questions are worded. The exam style questions again are brilliant. I can’t say enough good about this book.
